This is something that has been building for decades and I felt it somewhat whilst living on council estates as a child and living in places such as Salford and working in the dodgy parts of Manchester. Everyone has had to walk past a group of manevolent looking scallies on their bikes and seemingly with nothing to do but march in packs looking for trouble and a place to cast their simmering negativity. I have been away nigh on a decade and I imagine it has been escalating more and more. I have always been highly critical of the 'chav' underbelly within the UK, but to see it explode like this is just appalling. It is a society that really has broken down and I struggle to see the UK being reigned back in short of bringing in seriously draconian measures. It's been going on too long and there are just too many of these horrid creatures out there now. And to think foreigners still buy into the notion of the tea drinking gentleman. For years I have been saying it is nonsense, maybe now people will start to believe me.

And I was reading an article today about conditions in Britain's biggest prison being 'demeaning'. Wtf? Prison SHOULD be demeaning. I honestly believe more of them should be built and prisons should be prisons. No TV, no sports, bread and water for your meals and all kinds of other things that reduce the burder on the taxpayer. It is beyond me why a criminal needs tens of thousands of pounds a year spent on them whilst behind bars. If you want austerity, then strip the prisoners of their easy lives. Prison should be punishment. All these yobs could do with a stretch inside.

I am usually left of the political spectrum on many issues but 1 of them is not being soft on criminals.
Speaking of criminals. I remember an article a few weeks back that a group of burglars had entered a man's home and 1 of them got into a violent confrontation with him and ended dead with a 1 stab wound. You know what happened? The man and his son was charged for murder. And no I'm not kidding. Suspected burglar stabbed to death - Crime, UK - The Independent

And speaking of jails and prisons, remember some old thread about it and Skel one of our best members describe it as being a sort of paradise? Playstations and Xboxes along with cell phones, laptops with internet connection with access to ipods and being able to play billiards and all that good stuff. Sheesh, no wonder criminals don't fear the law in the UK.
Totally, it seems to be a bit of a joke. We need prisons like the one that Oscar Wilde wrote "The Ballad of Reading gaol" in. Either man you up or melt you down. Though clearly I don't believe Oscar Wilde should have been in jail, but these little bastards should be.
