CFH you'd be surprised how many Libs try to claim that the little busy work projects FDR created rescued America from the Great Depression....Hell that's taught in our schools! Its an "undeniable truth" FDR's New Deal rescued us from the Great Depression and The Civil War was fought to free the slaves ....both of which couldn't be more wrong.

As for your statements nameless, I agree W did spend too much, the Republicans spent too much, but the Democrats spent even MORE! Was Barry dealt a bad hand (re: the economy)? Sure! But thems the breaks...W inherited a recession (and before you doubt it go check it out), and Reagan too inherited a bad economy but they turned it around. To me Obama has never looked like a LEADER he hasn't done anything that shows any positive leadership qualities, for example on the Obamacare debate he met with Republicans and said "We won, you lost" he LITTERALY said that, and then rammed that bill through Congress. I ask you, "How is that helpful"? He told Republicans to "Eat your peas" when it came to the debt ceiling debate, how smug and condescending can one person be? Is he being told what to say by Keith Olbermann?!?!

As far as candidates go, I don't know who out of the current G.O.P. nominees I would vote for but I would prefer: someone that doesn't wear their religion on their sleeve, someone who has a common sense view of the world, and someone willing to give the states back some power to make decisions for themselves that would benefit them without the national government basically holding their funds hostage. Maybe that makes my candidate Ron Paul, but I really don't care my dog could run America better than Obama!

Yes Paul would gut the federal gov't if he could, but all those services would be picked up by the states...kind of like the Constitution says they are supposed to. We would be a much less contentious country if individual state governors and legislators were having an honest conversation with their constituents about the services they want how much taxes they were willing to pay for them. If you think about the federal govt only exercising the powers enumerated by the Constitution for them the federal income tax would probably not even be necessary. Good Bye IRS!!!

Nameless the whole "The US had a great image worldwide" is crap. Bill Clinton had a wag the dog war in Bosnia, he took us to Somalia, and there was this teeny tiny little incident with China (you know bombing their embassy) AND the World Trade Center was bombed, and a few embassies of ours were bombed, and USS Cole was attacked. So it ain't like we were walking on rose pedals during the Clinton years plus we had the Oklahoma City bombing and Waco so its not like 100% Americans loved Clinton either.

But W gets a bad rap, and why is that? Because he's a Republican.

The great thing about Clinton is if you look at a lot of the legislation he signed he could have been a great Republican Seriously though Presidents all to often get too much credit for the good times and too much blame for the bad. That being said going to Iraq can pretty much be squarley put on W's shoulders. Slick Willy like most successful Presidents was simply lucky. His presidency happened concurrent with an economic boom and he didn't step on his dick in the foreign policy arena. Until we get a president/senate/legislature that will willingly give away some powers of the Federal gov't and cap spending we will keep chargin up the credit card until the whole damn country gets re-possessed.

Just got back from vacation, the one problem with the states picking up the programs is drum roll please............most are broke already and need a balanced budget (where as the federal government doesn't need a balanced budget) How does a state fund itself when unemployment gets up to 20% in some areas, do we just use the libertarian argument that "oh well to have winners we must have losers" and let states fail?

But considering that they cannot perpetually run a deficit and tend to be more responsive to their constituients eventually state govts will have to have an honest conversation with the voters about what programs they want, what they actually cost and what the voters are willing to pay in taxes. In regards to financial hard times: you, me and every other responsible poster on this site set aside money in savings from every paycheck to deal with unforseen costs. Its time both our federal and state govt's started doing the same. Lastly, yes I expect government at all levels and the individual person to accept more accountability which will lead to some winners and losers. American's have in the past done a pretty good job of taking care of themselves and others. When the gov't stops being such a nanny state I am confident that American's will for the most part meet whatever bar is necessary.

Things are different now than they used to be, we don't need as many laborers as we did in the past to produce goods equal to the needs/wants of our society. Put simply we don't need as many people as we used to. Meaning going forward fewer people will have jobs at all.

What we need is for everyone to get some kind of lesson in how to budget, this whole overly extended credit situation is a problem from individual to the federal government and everywhere in between. If credit is to be used as part of this game of global capitalism, the rules should at least be understood.

When Clinton left, the US had a very good economy and quite a good image world wide. Bush caused the spending of 1000 billions and did a cut taxfor the very rich, hell even Buffett the multi billionaire stated lately how he should be taxed and how that measure was just a gift to the riches. Neither did Clinton and Obama united together spent any close to that extra 1000 billions of debt and that spending is not because the "economy" was bad, Bush just used it to turn around billions to the militaro-complex and to his friends at HAlliburton, KBR or Carlyle Group. The average citizen didn't benifit a second from that. On that respect, it is not true that the Democrats spent more these last20 years than the Reps, not by a wide margin.
