Greece wasn't a bastion of capitalism, it was socialist. Hell the problem with the EU is that the overwhelming majority of countries didn't belong in it to begin with! Italy has 0 business in it!

I'm far from a supporter of communism, but if you're actually thinking of real communism the way marx and engels had thought it up, the ussr is as far from that as you can get. Marx and engels argued that communism truly could only develop and work in a country that had become highly industrialized and modern, something that the russian empire was very very far off from.
