Tough to tell. I look at the Floyd who sizzled against Gatti in 2005 and now 7 years later he is the oldish one now, but I do like how he hunted down Shane took his best punches and beat him up always moving forward. I'd like to see him stand in the pocket and fight Ortiz in the inside make it rough and test this kids heart again

In June 2005 I spoke to Arturo Gatti and Buddy McGirt on a conference call just before his fight with Floyd. I was working for a site called rabbitpunchboxing.com and was assigned to call in at that conference. Buddy and Arturo were saying the strategy they were going to beat Mayweather with was called "Hacoona Matata" whereby Gatti was going to try to hit Floyd right behind the left ear whenever he did that shoulder roll thing. Dont know why McGirt called it "Hacoona Matata" if thats slang for that part behind the ear or what. I spoke to Buddy first and then asked Arturo if it was true. He said yes, they were going to hit ANY AVAILABLE TARGET---hips, elbows, biceps, behind the ear, to try and inflict any kind of pain and slow him down. The problem was Floyd was so goddam fast, Gatti couldnt touch him anywhere, Hacoona Matata or anywhere else for that matter.

Now we're hearing Ortiz will try the same thing---hit any target legal or borderline-legal. I think despite the 6 years that have elapsed since Floyd's fight with Gatti, that Floyd hasnt really lost much speed if any, and that Ortiz will suffer the same fate as Arturo, who quit after 6. In fact Gatti had a better chin so Ortiz prob wont make it past 4 or 5 and will quit in the same fashion he quit against Maidana.

just cause you post the same damn thing in 3 threads doesn't mean it has any merit lol to compare Ortiz and Gatti is like comparing apples and oranges, Gatti was already reaching the end of his career and his punch resistance was fading, as was evident against two infamous feather fisted fighters Baldomir and Alfonso Gomez, Ortiz is 24 and was stopped (actually quit) against one of the biggest punchers at 140 today

I am going to take a shot at this and say that Floyd's ego is what win's his fights. He is always in pretty good shape and really works hard after the announcement of the time and day of the bout. Floyd is not stupid. He learns about his opponent and he plays a psychological game with them and each fight he adjusts to his opponents. True he picks them made to order but there will be a time he will lose if his focus is off just a tad. It might be someone more obnoxious that is not only stronger than him but faster in hand speed with a faster dirtier vocabulary. Someone who will harass him like Ali did Liston and annoy him so bad that he wants to kill him. He would be foaming at the mouth. Maybe that opponent will be as silent as a stroke. It's not the punches you avoid that will get you, it's the ones you don't see and his conqueror is out there but Floyd hasn't met him yet but he's in place. All Floyd has to do is take him lightly and greatness becomes a myth and his O will leave him. It wasn't Ortiz and it might not be Manny but he is waiting.
