Good thing the ref stopped that, Alvarez was doing some serious damage to Gomez' gloves. Those things are expensive.

That's so disappointing. Apart from the flash knockdown at the start Gomez was winning every round. He was definitely hurt in that exchange, no question, but this was like when Manfredo fought Calzaghe and they stopped the fight as soon as Joe threw three punches together.

Gomez could have weathered that and has proven as much throughout his career.

I hate it when referee's ruin a fight. Bollock's stoppage.

I thought Alfonso Gomez was putting the pressure on well, and was very much in the fight. The hype Saul Alvarez is getting is ridiculous the next ODLH what a laugh.

    yup.

I have said before and my opinion hasn't changed. Alvarez will probably not be able to be the top dog in a weight division, much less a P4P fighter.

He is still young and may well improve a lot.

He definitely has certain things going for him. He's heavy handed, he goes to the body well, he has a decent chin and he's definitely got talent.

I don't think he'll reach the very top, but I think he can do well at 154 against the likes of Cotto, Kirkland, Angulo, Chavez Jr etc.

Probably not ready for Cotto yet, but another 18 months and he will likely be getting there.

Look at Khan a few years ago. Everyone thought he was a joke and was dodging Jon Thaxton who would destroy him. Seems a bit silly that many people said that now.

Alvarez in another couple years will be hard to beat imo.

Well glove safety must come first.

This was a 'showcase' for an over produced diva in the making and that stoppage was in the cards going in. Gomez played his role to a tee and earned his day but really, it was known what he was there for.

I think the stoppage was fine, matter of time. Btw Alvarez is beatable
