That was my exact reaction. The first thing I thought of was those old WWF shows from the 80s where the "bad guy" who was winning anyway would grab a chair or the bell when the ref wasn't looking and cold-cock the other dude. Combined with the "buy the fight because you think I'm an asshole and want to see me lose" build-up that he does for all his fights.
I was still a Floyd fan, somehow, going into this fight. I'm a bigger fan of technically virtuosic boxing than aggressive brawling -- so much so that I would have forgiven Floyd's idiotic personality and rooted for him against Manny (if it ever happened) in spite of myself. That move was so classless though that I'll really try hard to root for Manny now, despite my greater appreciation for Floyd's boxing. It was just so gratuitous.
And obviously Ortiz started it off with his own WWF moment. But he obviously wasn't thinking straight when he did that and was profusely apologetic afterward. In other words, he's a nice but excitable kid; whereas Floyd is just an asshole.
Larry brought me off the "replace him permanently with Max" boat for awhile with tonight's awesome performance though -- that was the highlight. And maybe the most pro wrestling moment of them all.
