He lost the fight in the ring via a two punch combination which although classless where legal.
The whole weigh in drama is always overrated amongst us fans as being the decider in fights.

Obviously speaking figuratively not literally, but I think there is some logic to that as it does speak to the mentality of the fighters. Do you think Manny would do that to other fighters? I doubt he does that to Hatton, Marquez, Mosely or alot of other fighters he's faced.
The key is Self-discipline.
Utter poppycock, Iole is talking bollocks. anyone can read weigh in signs after the event. Half the time fans delude themselves, much like Man Utd fans pretend that they aren't just glory supporters.
Ortiz' whole demeanour was wrong for this fight - He showed Mayweather far too much respect. Between kissing, hugging and allowing the choke hold, his whole attitude to the fight was wrong.
I used to get berated by my trainer and sparring partners for saying sorry when my punches would go below the belt etc These guys were also pro's and would ask me "why the fuck are you saying sorry?? It's a fight!"
...and that was just sparring..not the biggest fight of my life like Ortiz had on Saturday

"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Ortiz lost the fight the minute he was picked for this fight. So many people act surprised now. It was a crime and disservice to boxing to even stage this fight. Here was a kid that folded after a first tough fight. He stuck it out and found his mettle and got up from a real ugly shot vs Berto, fought on and was rewarded with a title. He should have been a allowed to defend that title against some decent competition first. How many on the bubble guys did Berto get a chance to defend against? As soon as this kid defined himself, here comes Cherry pickin' Mayweather out of retirement to scoop up a belt from a kid who's still green, so he doesn't get stiffed at the negotiating table the next time they talk about him and pac. Ortiz's people did protect their fighter... they saw money and said strike while the irons hot.
Everyone counted on the layoff and the hot girlfriend to take enough starch out of Mayweather's legs to make this competitive. They guy never really had any hard miles to begin with. His defense has him well preserved. I'm glad ortiz got a decent payday after the hard life he had coming up... but I weep for the future of boxing knowing the promoters haven't changed... I'd take watching a kid that wants to be champ any day over one willing to get punched in the head for a fat check.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
