    Default Good effort Darren barker!

Thought Darren boxed very well lst night. Gutted he never at least finished the 12.but really put on a gd show and in the first half ov the fight completely out boxed the overrated Martinez.who on here really thinks Martinez is pound for pound king? Very disappointing show from him in my opinion.don't get me wrong very powerful but in the top three boxers in the world no danger.

A very good and disciplined performance by Darren - l had him maybe 1 point down when it ended. He has loads of positives to take from the fight. A lot of the time the step up in class finds boxers out and destroys their head/belief - Darren knows he has a right to be amongst them now. Many great fights out there for him.

It was a very brave effort, but I didn't have it close. I probably had it 8-2 to Martinez after 10.

Very good effort by Barker but it wasn't that close and Martinez acquitted himself well.

agreed, i had it 8 to 2 for Martniez, Barker impressed because he went in actually putting up an effort to win, not just get a paycheck, but IMO Martinez pretty much dominated and i didn't see anything in the fight to say that Martinez is overrated, he dominated a game opponent and then went on to stop him

Sorry mate u must have been watching a different fight from me. In the first half ov the fight barker wos catching Martinez with ease with his jab.al I seen from from martinez wos his hand stupidly low and throwing the odd flurry which barker wos blocking no problem

Yes, I had it 8-2 too although I could see 7-3. Barker acquitted himself well though. He should hold his head high. His turtle shell defense was effective against Martinez. Martinez had difficulty countering Barker. The fight changed in my opinion once Martinez started going to the body around Barker's elbows in the middle rounds. I too like Barker's odds against Sturm or Geale right now. In fact, Geale v. Barker would be a very solid middleweight fight.

you must have been watching a different fight from everyone else because you're the only one who had him winning more than a maximum of 3 rounds, Martinez the 35 yr old toyed with him and stopped him as he did his other two opponents, he's anything but overrated

He did very well in crowding and forcing tempo first half. Long arms and tight guard effective and roughed him up but I wouldn't say he completely out boxed Martinez. Can't lose sight that Martinez made the adjustments and pulled away when the chips were down and displayed difference.

Hopefully HBO will have him back but unfortunately for the fans stateside prob not.

Very good effort from Barker but i had him winning 3rounds, he needed to let his hands go more.

Barker did better than expected and had some success catching Martinez in the first 4 rounds with right hands. After that though, he was in survival mode for the rest of the fight. Wouldn't let his hands go and just wanted to go the distance. HBO announcers were making it sound like an upset in the making and the punch stats were WAY WAY off.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

there's a round or two to be given to barker in there somewhere but last night didn't give him one, he certainly was at no point "outboxing the overrated martinez". He did well in the same sense that kevin johnson (?) did well against vitali that is hold up his guard throw a jab here and there and be happy to go 12, but that didn't happen either. Don't know enough about geale to say how barker would do, but he looses to sturm, sturm does what barker does, but better.
