I kicked someone in the adams apple once in sparring (im a kickboxer by the way) and the guy I was sparring made the loudest screaming noise I have ever heard and was choking holding his throat for over a minute, I shit myself and though I had killed him or something. It took him a good 10 mins to get his breath back properly.

Ken Norton hit Duane Bobick (or maybe Jerry Quarry) in the throat. My father said that Fritzie Zivic had a very raspy voice that he (Zivic) attributed to being hit in the throat. I think it doesn't happen often because nobody wants it done to them.

this shit is even too painful to visualize, let alone actually having it happen.

the apex of the chin runs exactly across the apple when the head is lowered, shielding it from a head on strike.

I've always wondered why we have an exposed neck at all, surely its an evolutionary disadvantage? Why dont we have a flexible bone in front of the neck? Then I found out this wierd fact - the apple is part of the cartilage rows that were once gill structure in our fishy ancestors. The gap we have between that adams apple/larynx cartilage and jawbone was one of the gill slits. friggin wierd!

And embroys grow exposed gills in the womb!

...it's not a target...same as the nuts (unless fighting me)..if it were a target is further away from the chin, thus taking yourself closer in to range added to that the general advice of chin down/shoulder.

I wonder if in women's boxing its ok to punch on the boobs or get cunt busted. But then again I can care less about women's boxing.

Genaro Hernandez comes to mind as someone alreay mentioned.
