It as clearly a scissor clip crap move. Dawson cuffs his leg and shrugs him off huge, clear as fooking day. Ref was mute on both counts
So only one of us got it right in the poll at the top of this thread.
That's kinda funny.
I know Hopkins seems to have a hstory of overplaying the injury factor, but I tend to agree with his comments to Kellerman: that this is what it is. Dawson dipped low, Hopkins swung over him and maybe overdid that too as he put his weight on Dawson. Another typical tactic like walking the other fighter backwards by leaning - tire him out. And a head game to frustrate him, too. It's Hopkins. And Dawson didn't like it.
Who would? But Dawson overdid the reaction. What he did was illegal.
And the ref seemed to go into neutral and lose all sense of purpose and direction at this point as others have mentioned. No count for BHop, no warning to Dawson, no nothing. I was sure it would be either a no contest (boo hiss) or a DQ (yes!).
I hope that a medical exam proves a real injury, and that the decision is overturned. Dawson doesn't deserve to become a champion this way.
Sad. This following so closely on the heels of Mayweather-Ortiz is disheartening. (Not to compare the two in any way except that each is an abnormal, unexpected and controversial ending to a fairly major fight).
Fight looked even to me and I was hoping to see Hopkins turn it up else it might have gone the way of the Jermaine Taylor fights was my fear. Dawson looked like he could have been a real threat by being more active and bringing the fight. Shouldn'a had to tackle Hopkins to win.
What an abrupt ending. I'm glad I did not order the ppv for that one. Jesus Christ...
Bernard has faked in the past, especially in the Roy Jones rematch, but tonight Dawson scooped up Hopkins and dumped him on the ground.
Easily could have been a DQ, which might have been what Hopkins was aiming for and may have milked it a bit.
A no contest is the LEAST it could be.
But a fucking TKO win for Dawson !? WTF !?
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Can't justify what happened by saying Hopkins did it in the past.
If Hopkins had a history of faking being low blowed, it wouldn't be justified if an opponent blatantly did it and then was awarded a win because of it.
Dawson was in the wrong, both in the foul, and then his behavior after the fight. Hopkins for once was legit fouled and injured. Wrong is wrong, it doesn't matter if he has faked injury in the past, it doesn't make it right that he was robbed tonight.
Hopkins deserves a rematch and Dawson is going to try to avoid it cause he knows.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
