In the past Hopkins has faked injury to give him an advantage, the Calzaghe fight is a prime example.
Do you think this afected the reffs desisions last night.

Balls
Dunno if its affected the refs decision but its definately why here is so much talk about the validity of the injury
When it happened my first reaction was he was faking it
He had his face screwed up before he hit the floor the lent on it to get up
I cant understand why he would fake an injury to end a fight at the stage it was at tho, whats the point?
Officially the only saddo who has had a girlfriend
Well, true, I'll concede that 'faking anothers punches on you' and 'faking your own punches perceived effect' are on different levels, the former is a direct cheat but still a common tool(Calzaghe used it too), the latter is a boxing tool to pick up points a la Sugar Ray Leonard v Hagler. I was definitely below the belt there, if you'll forgive the pun.
Mind you, I think you'll find the nickname Calslappy is well known in boxing, so I'm happy to be in a good company not knowing what its talking about.

Dont think Jeff Lacy would agree with you.![]()
Balls
thank you! an excellent example of a single fight that I was trying to get you to post.
You are right that its unfair for Calzaghe to be judged as a slap artist on the basis of only a portion of his fights. I am glad you agree that it would be much fairer to judge fighters on their performance on each fight alone - which is my point in being, no one should judge BHop's performance against Dawson on the basis of a previous fight he cheated in.

That is true but it was hard not to think he was faking it when you look at the amount of times in a fight that he did something illegal. Literally almost every single fight. I think what might have happened is that Hopkins was doing another of his moves where he tries to buy time by saying he was hurt and then after taking 5 minutes off he comes back.
yeah i mean you can definitely make that point about later rounds, when old Bhop gassses against fitter young men. But in round 2? We all know Bhop can fight wellat a fair rate for at least 5 rounds(v Calzaghe) today, and can win over the distance if he is allowed to canter (vRJJ). But how can a ref believe he was looking to get air in round 2?
Tbh I havent seen a lot of Bhops fights yet, so I may have to defer to your knowledge on this one.

Absolutely. It was a terrible call and I'm certain it will be overturned, but it was 100% due to Hopkins reputation. Refs don't like being made fools of and all Hopkins bullshit caught up to him last night.
That said, I expect it to (rightly) end up as a N/C and we'll see a rematch within 6 months. Hopefully it's not a career-ender, but at Hopkins age it might be.
I reckon the crowd had a LOT to do with the decision, a hall full of booing all round, they were out to shoot down Hopkins based on his reputation.
Such a bad ref to be influenced so markedly, but he must have been swayed by that, did he even examine Bhops shoulder before making that decision?
Referees should have some minimum medical knowledge, for instance to recognise a possible lumped out shoulder, if they are allowed to make decisions like this. I absolutely cant see a football referee not noticing that a player has a dislocated shoulder, even the worst possible fakers like some of Italy's squad (many times owrse than Bernard) you can determine if they are faking it with a close look, so I think its fair to call the referee a complete oaf on this one for not getting a doctor to look at the shoulder properly before deciding.

I think his history has something to do with it, yes..
Nard has a long history of bitchassness and the ref knew about it.. obviously.
He tried that bullshit with Antwon Echols, Robert Allen, Calzaghe, Roy rematch and now this... Ref isn't stupid.
Conman got conned..
