There isn't a fixed post number or a fixed number of days and years from your join date as the site itself is getting older and average post counts are increasing.
5 years ago someone who had been here to 2 years was a veteran and someone with 5000 posts was a prolific poster.
Obviously now 2 years doesn't seem like long at all and 5000 posts is what most of the regulars have at least.
As the site continues to exist average post counts will go up as the average length of membership time.
Therefore I'd say it's more a percentage of the site average that determines veteran status. Someone who has been here for more than half of the lifespan of the site, someone who is in the top 10 percentile for post count etc would be examples of veteran posters imo

I would argue that 20,000 posts is the standard for 2011.

I didn't realise that there are only about 4 people with over 20,000 posts. I revise that figure to 10,000.
