People who say Kirkland has no defense needs to go back and watch. He slipped alot of punches and Definetly has improved his defense. Why would Alvarez eat him up? He is less tested than Kirkland. Julio, Angulo, Even Vera Is livlier than any one Alvarez has fought He was fumbling against Gomez and has been coddled and not tested at all

Also, it's worth noting that all of Kirkland's troubles came as a result of getting caught flush with that straight right... WHILE he was charging in, backing Angulo up against the ropes. He got careless, got caught, and spent the better part of the round protecting himself while getting his bearings back. Once that happened, he didn't get hit with anything major.

One thing for sure, I was sure that Angulo would eat would eat him alive and that Kirkland had no chances, especially after his lost to a very average fighter. I am surprised, not to say shocked, perhaps that he found back his roots after all and that if he can stay out of troubles for a little time, he might achieve something.

He slipped punches on behalf of Angulo being slow as hell and telegraphing everything. Kirkland does have extremely poor defence, his resting stance is purely a target the way he cocks his left before even throwing it etc. I think Alvarez, or anyone with an outside game, would absolutely pummel him. It was a fun fight for a few rounds last night but really both guys are quite average in the scheme of things.

I agree with this, Angulo's limitations were apparent, and Kirkland is still very "raw".

Before he does anything else, I'd like to see Kirkland in a rematch with Ishida, i'm convinced that the 1st fight was a fluke.

I have to agree with those that say Kirkland is raw and has $hitty defense. I personally dont think Angulo really wants to fight anymore. He didn't seem to want it last night. He knocked kirkland down with one shot and tried to swarm him and make it an early night, but angulo looks like he just fights for the money now. Sad the guy refuses to go down because it really be bad for his health. Maybe he can find less painful work as a Freddie Mercury impersonator or something.
The shot that dropped kirkland was a text book example of how Kirkland will be eventually exposed and outclassed one day. Kirkland loves to try to swarm blindly with combos and never thinks about what might be coming back. There's a mentality there that says as long as i'm throwing, my opponent will cover and never get their offense going. Watching a slugger like Angulo, thread the needle with that punch made the look on Kirkland's face priceless when he got dropped with it. I think someone like Cintron would embarrass Kirkland and that's saying lot considering my opinion of Cintron. The feather punching Ishida dropped Kirkland because he was throwing in between Kirklands shots, Kirkland was either walking into shots or wobbled by straight punches thrown through his own offense and then put down. Its like a 154lb version of Julian Mr. Ko Letterlough (RIP).. a heavy hitter that takes some heavy shots but can be baited easy and countered if you throw with him.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Kirkland would knock Alvarez back to Ireland.

As someone mentioned above, Kirkland has a lot of flaws. He can be outboxed and he doesn't have a brilliant chin, but damn is he not exciting to watch! Someone like Lara will beat him easily so would Sergio. A fight with Paul Williams would be fun viewing while it lasted as would a fight with Wolak.

I honestly thought Angulo would win that fight especially in Mexico. I found myself cheering for Kirkland after he got knocked down. That was a exciting first round and what a great win for Kirkland, he brought it to Angulo.

Maybe I'm wrong but this seems to be be the 1st I'm hearing about how average and limited Angulo is around here. Canelo's defense isint great by any means Cotto rocked him a few times. He hasn't fought any punchers yet to make him pay. Canelo is an excellent combo puncher but can he do it on his back foot? The fight won't happen unless GBP are absolutely convinced that Kirkland is still vulnerable.. Oscar flew to Texas to put his neck out for James in court but Alvarez has grown into a rock star in Mexico. So the caution will favor Alvarez

Kirkland will get the winner of Cotto vs Margarito or don't be suprised if Dibella knocks on GBP door to try and make a Martinez vs Kirkland fight at Middle. Martinez seems to have no real American names he ca fight and Kirkland might be the most lucrative. Daniel Jacobs seems stuck on the Tarmac. Jermain Taylor is shot and Arthur Abraham has been on the slide himself even though he is trying to slim back to Middle
