I remain unconvinced that Margarito is a halfway-decent fighter without plaster in his gloves. Certainly zero evidence of it.

Margarito is bitter. For the sake of an edge at the very least against Mosley, he has cast what will be a lingering (if not permanent) doubt on all his accomplishments, and he knows it. There will always be the specter of the gloves in considering at least his past victories, and he has nobody to blame except himself and/or his trainers. Was it worth it? They say sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me, but in actuality, it's damage to one's reputation that is generally more lingering. Long after he's healed from the pounding he took against Pacquiao, his reputation is still damaged from the handwraps incident.
He may have as much to prove as Cotto. Cotto didn't strike me as at all afraid of Margarito. Just confident and classy. I thought that Cotto would be more pissed off than Margarito, but that may not be true. Ironically, despite the result of the first fight, Cotto seems to be more at peace with it than Margarito. Margarito seems to me to have almost a little kid's mentality of protesting his innocence in one matter after being caught as guilty in another. It's going to be very interesting. In the interview, I see Cotto as very focused on the job at hand, and Margarito possibly not being able to have a handle on his emotions, which may hurt him. But it may not, as his style is very wide-open, too. But I do see Margarito's mental state possibly being subject to exploitation by a smart fight like Cotto, a la Leonard-Duran II. I thought going in that Cotto will win the rematch, and the interview doesn't change my mind, but that may just be confirmation bias at work.

exactly, Cotto's always been laid back, that's just how he is, if he was scared of Margarito he wouldn't have said what he said right in Margarito's face, he called him out on his bullshit not make buddy buddy with him in person only to talk shit behind his back

    He's still very durable

That said, I still stand strongly behind the psychological advantage that plaster wraps gives a fighter, I think a fighter is less worried about taking a big punch and knows deep down that all he has to do is keep the pressure up and his opponent will crack because he's been hitting him with rocks.

Look at Margarito vs Mosley and vs Pacquiao....he gives up, he'll stand and take punishment because he's a dope but once he starts getting nailed with punches he doesn't give back like he used to. It used to be if you hit Tony with a good punch he'd come back and land 4 or 5, now his output mirrors the fact that he hasn't been able to hurt Shane or Manny (both durable fighters of course) but his punch output fell drastically in those fights.

If I was Cotto I'd land a few vicious low blows to send a message and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened either.

    Margarito is a punk!

That said Margarito vs Angulo or Kirkland is very winnable for him IMO

I don't believe Antonio is totally shot, but it's safe to say he's not the same fighter he was before the Mosley & Pacquiao beatdowns. Cotto on the other hand seems to be as good if not better than he was prior to his losses to Margo in the first fight and Pacquiao, advantage Cotto.

Margo will give it his all, and keep coming just like he did in the 1st fight with Cotto, the difference is, he won't be nearly as effective finding Cotto as he was last the time. Margo is also going to be eating big shots that hurt him, Miguel is going to want to make a statement.

Gonna be another barn burner. Although I see some hesitation on Cotto's part to be, well, like the cotto of old. He seems to have lost some confidence here or just wanting to project himself as being more cautious. Margarito's face will probably burst around round 5 if cotto hits him the way he did back in their first fight. I still can't see the fractures on margo's face healing completely given the way it was demolished last year. Either way, gonna be a tremendous fight. Pulling for a cotto late round tko here.

Margarito doesn't really seem to have anything to say about the wraps apart from I didn't know and makes it out like it was nothing, when in reality he could have killed someone. As much as I want the cheat beat I just think he has Cotto's number. Hopefully he's shot from the Pac and Mosley beatdowns and cotto punishes him.

Yeah, obviously he's still in denial stage about the wraps. No way I'm saying he didn't do it but he probably wanted to project to Cotto and to everyone else he had nothing to do with it so he makes it out like he doesn't care. Dunno if anyone bit that though. I'm still convinced he knew all along.

Also, Cotto didn't seem supremely confident in the interview. I still think Cotto pulls a tko here though. I still think Margo or his body still hasn't recovered from the previous 2 beatings he got. 1 year, I'm not sure if that's enough to heal a completely shattered orbital bone.

I don't buy into what margarito says. I think he had full knowledge of what was going on. Let's just hope you're right and he's not fully healed, so he can feel the punches this time around.

Neither do I, I think he's a cheating bastard that got a free pass with his last fight and I still think he should be banned instead of getting a big payday fight with Cotto. My heart definitely goes with Cotto here. Still think he can win it, but he's the underdog if the same Margo that went up against pac last year is the same Margo that bull rushes him in their rematch. Wild card on the table would probably be margo's recovery (or lack of ) since his last 2 brutal fights.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I thought Cotto did a good job in the face off and sounded confident.

If Cotto paces himself better, keeps the fight in the center of the ring, and/or keeps Margo backing up, he should take care of business this time. Cotto has come back well from his 2 losses, Margo has yet to prove that he has.
Thought Cotto looked a bit sheepish/intimidated.

That was one hell of a beating he took last time. Even if he's gained confidence through the belief Margarito had loaded gloves, still gotta take some to get over that beating.

Margo showed me enough in the shellacking he took from Pac that he can beat Cotto again.

Miguel looks pretty nifty on his I-Pad there. I think that augurs well for the fight.

    Cotto by TKO.
