Cotto has that mentality that he doesn't want to risk his life in the ring and would rather fold than continue to take a beating. He said as much when he had the face to face with Margarito. He said "this is my job, I have kids, I'm not gonna waste my time taking a beating and not be able to go see them" something to that extent, and he basically thought Margarito was crazy that he would rather die in the ring than quit.


I commend Cotto for putting his life ahead of the sport, but I'm not sure he wanted to reveal something like that in front of the man he's about to rematch. If your opponent knows you'd rather quit then fight if you're getting hurt too badly it is gonna put them at the mental advantage cause they know they can make you quit, and when you openly admit it to them it can make things worse. So I commend Cotto, but I don't think "this is just my job, what kind of idiot would continue to fight on" is the kind of message you wanna send to a guy that's already done it to you once.
