The only way to beat him is macklins style but with Calzaghe/froch type stamina otherwise keep away from him and pick him off which is an unlikely task

Murray is young. He has to outwork Sturm and be consistent. He must target Sturm's sides and forearms so that it is he, Murray, who dictates when Sturm stops covering up and starts fighting. It is a big ask and a massive step up for Martin Murray but if he can get Sturm to throw more, and keep out of his way when he does, he can outlast him. I thought Murray may have had a chance of a KO with a perfectly planted hook to Sturms' body but Al is right. Murray doesn't hit that hard so i think fitness may be the key. Murray on Points, after Sturm fades. Sturm came on strong against Macklin in the latter stages but Matthew faded. I think Martin Murray can keep Sturm busy for all 12 rounds and win on points. In Germany that's one hell of an ask, but he can do it by being emphatically busier. Go for it Martin.![]()

Anyone watching this fight? I just started, but the British announcers seem to think Murray is holding his own here.
FWIW, I gave Murray rd. 6
murray looks good. i sense sturm is starting to tire...

I've been in and out, but I get the feeling that Murray could have been well ahead by now if he was just a bit busier.
murray is throwing more but sturm's punches are certainly harder.
well....if you don't knock 'em out in germany...you lose. thats the rule right?

A draw was a fair result and a narrow win either way would not have been outrageous. Murray certainly got Sturm to throw more by dropping his hands and urging him in, but took a while to settle and didn't get out of Sturms way enough allowing himself to be backed on the ropes too long before turning him. It was Murray first fight at this level and for a relatively inexperienced fighter he did himself proud. He was just not quite busy enough and nearly paid dearly for it in the last round. Well done though and congratulations to Ricky Hatton for his promotional abilities in getting Martin the fight and having faith in his ability when not a lot of other people did.
7-5 sturm for me. sorry whoever that british commentator is that was giving scores is a moron. how the f you going to make the 12th a 10-10 round, as your only even round, if you make that a 10-10 round you have to make half of the other rounds 10-10 which is fine if thats what ya did. felt almost like he did that so he'd have murray winning it by a point, when i felt that was one of the more clear rounds for sturm. their workrate in that round was about equal but felix was landing the quality, and if ya had doubt the last 10 seconds should have sealed it. Good fight and draw is ok.

I think you are reading into the commentary a bias that simply was not there. I'm not sure which commentator you are talking about but if it is former world lightweight champion Jim Watt then i think you are a bit wide of the mark calling him a moron. He is always very objective and made it quite clear that he thought Sturm would be too much for Murray at the start. Murray was not given a chance by anyone and held his own. I don't think you have to make half of the other rounds a 10-10 if that is how you score the 12th. Sturm finished that round strongly but Murray landed several combinations of real quality earlier and a 10-10 is ok. Ian Darke is not so objective but he had Sturm winning so i don't really know what you mean. Still great fight and it seems Sturms day's are numbered.
Ok your right calling him a moron is a bit harsh probably, I think I was just still vexed by the sound of his voice, bit annoying. To make the 12th round even is silly still imo when it wasn't even the closest round of the fight. Like I said tho good. Close fight and a draw is good and I'm sure sturm as always in close fights will ofer a rematch, that's one thing he can't be criticized for.

For the people that watched it, is Sturm slipping?
