It all reeks of double standards and sheer hypocrisy....
But what this is doing on a boxing site, I really dont know

Miles if those North Koreans started sending in suicide bombers every day and blowing up your civilians you would be crying out for your government to invade them.
We (Britain) went to war because the Argentines stole our sheep grazing fields on the Falklands. We invaded Iraq because Uncle George asked us to, Isreal are more justified in going to war than we or America have ever been post world war 2.
I disagree completely. North Korea is no threat for a start.
As for Israel, there are steps and procedures. The UN is an organisation that can legitimise any offensive moves. Israel fails to act upon such utilising any such means in order to gather support.
In no way can I support the taking of lives by Israel in Lebanon. This is the action of a so called legitimate government. Its bullshit and sanctions, just like those against North Korea should be made against Israel!
Miles I know North Korea are no threat, what I saying is that IF you living in South Korea had to contend with daily suicide bombs coming from orth Korea you would be pretty pissed off too.
Consider that Israel is only the size of Wales and is surrounded by Arab nations who all absolutely hate them. I mean I can think of no other nation in the world where it's neighbours are allowed to say in political statements that they are committed to their total annihilation and destruction.
Isreal has to conted with Hammas terrorists now as a genuine political party, Hezzbollah as a real and dangerous threat, and with the likes of Syria and Iran who just love the chance to stir things up and armthe terrorist groups against them.
In all honesty I can say there is no country in the world I would be more fearful to live in than Israel, surrounded by enemies on every side, their only ally on the other side of the world, and yet when pressed they back down to nobody.
Of course it's a tragedy what is happening in Lebanon but I guarantee if you were an Israeli and had to contend with the kind of S*** they do, day in day out you would be urging your government to sort it out once and for all.
Good points, Bilbo...
Any deaths from such conflicts are futile and pointless and that is the tragedy...
My arguments about all this go far deeper than the current crisis. I have serious issues with the manner and form the Israeli state was even concepted from....the issues we have today have all evolved from the poor planning that occured way before I was born...
I just hope we can have a truce and a chance for things to be patched up ASAP....it will only be a truce, however. These problems are indemic in the region...
Yes but at the end of the day Israel are the only nation on earth that can claim that God Almighty gave them their land.
Believe or not believe everyone is allowed to choose, but personally I would not mess with God's chosen people. If the whole world turned on the Jews and attempted to wipe them out like Hitler, I'd back the Israelites to win every day of the week.
Ultimately it goes way back to the time of Abraham. He had two sons, one with his handmaid Hagar called Ishmael, the father of the Arabs. And he had Isaac, the father of the Jews through his wife Sarah.
Their descendants have fought ever since and will continue to fight. It's a problem with no solution I'm afraid.
Thats a lovely way of looking at it bilbo, but it doesnt stand either historically nor scientifically....god did not give anybody land, it was an alliance of the British and the Americans! Nothing godly or overpowering in this at all. Just the talk of money and getting things done.
Exodus 3:17
And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites-a land flowing with milk and honey.'
If you ever read the bible Miles, it's pretty scary stuff. He promised them the land, then made this rather more threatening promise...
See, I set before you a blessing and a curse: a blessing if you obey the commandments of God...but a curse if you disobey and leave the way marked out for you." (Dt.:11:26+).
"I will destroy your high places and your altars...I will scatter you among the nations. I will unsheathe the sword against you to make your land a waste and your towns a ruin. Then the land will observe its sabbaths indeed, lying desolate there, while you are in the land of your enemies." (Lv.26:30-34).
"For failing to serve God, you will submit to the enemies that God will send against you. They will come as a far-off nation from the ends of the earth, speaking a language you do not understand and they will besiege you in all of the towns that God gave to you. There will be only a handful of you left. You will be torn from the land which you are entering, and God will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to another." (Dt.2

.
Then he promises that he will eventually gather them up again and return them to their Holy Land.
Jeremiah 31:10
Hear the word of the LORD, O ye Gentiles, preach in the Isles, that lie far off, and say: He that hath scattered Israel, shall gather him together again, and shall keep him as a shepherd doth his flock.
Ezekiel 37:10-14
Ezekiel 37:21-22
21and shalt say unto them: Thus sayeth the Lord GOD: behold, I will take away the children of Israel from among the Heathen, unto whom they be gone, and will gather them together on every side, and bring them again into their own land: 22Yea I will make one people of them in the land, upon the mountains of Israel.
As I say it's in the bible that they would be scattered across the whole world, then eventually re-established.
Actually it's even more uncanny that God initially led them out of Egypt, where the Pharoah was abusing and killing them and forcing all the males to be killed at birth. It's a miraculous escape that some critics today say never happend, but to me the amazing thing is that it happend again in living memory.
During world war 2 and the holocaust the jews were again being persecuted, rounded up and killed by the another evil Pharoah (Hitler), but again the Pharoh was overthrown and the Jews returned back to their homeland immediately after his destruction.
You have to admit, even for a non believer, it's so accurate it's scary.
