I cant remember the last time a champion boxer dialed 911 for help but at least he came out ok.

But this whole, "If you're a boxer, your fists are considered a deadly weapon" law stinks to me. Surely I don't have to be a boxer to know how to throw a good punch? Or if I defend myself and happen to be a boxer it's illegal? Or if I love boxing training and happened to get good but have NEVER wanted to compete (Would I be considered a "boxer"?). I get it, if someone picks a fight knowing the damage they can do as a boxer then yeah...but surely it's such a grey area that no case can be cut and dry??

Gandalf, agree it's getting crazy over here - Been in Thailand for 3 months and don't fancy coming back hearing the shitty news that comes through. Although going indoors and playing Playstation isn't the answer..in fact, that's probably led to these socially devoid fools' behaviour in the first place. They don't know how to act or talk to people.

We used to play out all the time as kids but the absolute worst we'd do is maybe throw a water bomb at passing cars..that was as sinister as it got. He did the right thing. Getting into a fight with some twats on the streets could have got him jail time. At best a fine! Not to mention the bad press. Good. Getting the shit kicked out of them would unlikely do anything for these kids except make them angrier and more violent when they came across someone weaker.

How is Burns getting criticised here? Fighting a gang of youths is like being the bear baited by a pack of dogs. If you start to chase one of them, the rest will pelt you from another angle with stones bottles etc. He's at less of a risk running away and having stuff thrown rather than trying to get involved and grab one or two of them.

You are making light of it, but if he had retaliated he could have a) got into serious trouble b) get knifed or have a jagged bottle slashed across the head. The UK is a savage place with a serious youth crime problem, the last thing you should be doing is going 1 on 6 with a gang of youths.

He's a boxer and has his pride, but that doesn't mean he has to be an idiot too. I salute him on making a very sensible decision. Good choice.
