No surprise there. Guerrero isn't a popular fighter and not that well known. So therefore he must not be that good a fighter, right?
He's a good fighter, but he's much smaller than Mayweather and I don't think he'll pose much of a threat. I also think that it will be something of a boring style match-up, but maybe Mayweather will press the action.
Like I said before I rather see Mayweather fight either Pacquiao or Martinez first. But obviously that ain't happening. It's easy to throw out a bunch of names and say fight them. But that just shows ones true ignorance on how the sport works. Some of the names I read mentioned are just dumb and make no sense.

Victor Ortiz & Andre Berto: Ortiz-Berto fight in February. There first fight was a brutal war. Good chance the rematch will be the same. There is no way either fighter would be ready to fight in May. To ask Mayweather (who already is way to inactive) to wait on them is unrealistic. Super Star fighters don't wait on opponents.

Miguel Cotto and Tim Bradley: Look at the trouble Mayweather has had dealing with Top Rank regarding a Pacquiao fight. No way he's gonna bother going through all that for Cotto or Bradley?

Marcus Maidana: People already crying about Guerrero. Madinana would be an even bigger mismatch than a Guerrero fight would be. Jesus Christ the man was bothered by Erik Morales hand speed. Yet some think he'll do better Guerrero?

Lamont Peterson & Erislandy Lara: I saw these names mentioned today. So now Floyd needs to go knocking on doors to get a fight? Guerrero has shown he wants the fight. When the fuck has Peterson or Lara ever, even mentioned they want to face Mayweather? They shown no interest what's so ever. And neither one is even close to big enough for Mayweather to chase.
the only other name that schaefer has thrown out is Canelo, who IMO is a better opponent than Guerrero, since at least he's bigger than floyd. (neither guy is better, and guerrero is way too small and coming off a long injury layoff to boot.)
I wouldn't mind Alvarez. The problem with Alvarez is Alvarez popularity. He would require a bigger purse than any other of Mayweathers options (obvious ones excluded). And Mayweather has balked at paying it. So that fight seems dead in the water

Robert Guerrero won't be Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s next opponent - ESPN
I have believed that it would be Canelo all along. Still holding out hope that Arum "Manns" up but it's unlikely.

if he's fighting Canelo at 154, he should be fighting Sergio.

That's obviously a better fight but Sergio is fighting Macklin in mid-March and wouldn't be ready even if Floyd was willing to take that challenge on (which he's not).

Right. I mean clearly if Floyd wanted it, Sergio wouldn't be fighting Macklin in March...

Ive been reading Guerrero is out of the picture and canelo is looking the more likely if a pacquiao showdown doesnt happen. Which IMO wont happen, not in may anyway. I dont want to see canelo fight mayweather right now, hes too young to be taking on mayweather. It's a silly move in his career IMO, he should be fighting Kirkland or Cotto at 154.

He's just said he isn't fighting Guererro (like you obviously hoped for so you could dump on him) So wtf is the matter now?

Cotto ideally..I dont know why the fuck people keep talking about Kirkland. Thats a nonsense fight. But Canelo is still a good fight with a guy in a higher weight class. First he fights over the hill fighters, then the fighters are too young/not ready.

Alt - you're picking at crumbs here, bud. You complain of the unmerited criticism heaped on Floyd, but your bias in the other direction is glaring. Everyone and their mom agrees that there are two appealing fights for Floyd: Pacquiao and Martinez. That's it and you know what, I favor Floyd in both! But, Martinez is risky and Floyd has been shown to be risk averse from his Arum days to now.

Guerrero isn't a good fight and I'm glad he isn't taking it. Canelo isn't a good fight either. Floyd went up to fight Oscar at 154 and Oscar then is tougher than Canelo now. Yet, Floyd now is better than Floyd then, so, that makes a Canelo fight crappy especially when he could fight Sergio in the same weight class as Canelo. There is NO other way to look at it. Kirkland is also a better fight than Canelo. Kirkland would beat Canelo down now (maybe not in a couple of years though). Heck Lara is a better fight than Canelo. I understand neither of those guys sells like Canelo so they may not make sense, but Martinez does. End of story.

so let me get this right, a fight against Kirkland is nonsense, but then Ortiz wasn't a gimme? Kirkland is coming off his best win same as Ortiz was, it came after looking bad in a previous performance just like Ortiz' win against Berto did, it's the same situation bro, only more of a challenge due to the weight, Mayweather/Kirkland makes more sense than Mayweather/Ortiz or Guerrero ever did

No way you are smokin some shit bro...Kirkland got ktfo by Ishida..come on now FFS. Ortiz drew against the now 140lb champion so in hindsight now..it wasnt bad at all. Plus most thought he won anyway.

Kirkland beats Angulo who shot his load early in the first round where as Ortiz beats the best welterweight apart from MM and Pac.

Totally different kettle of fish..Canelo for me is a tougher fight than Kirkland all day long. BUT he doesnt even wanna fight Canelo so really this is all pointless chat. (although its looking like that will be his only choice or Cotto)
