Remember Cotto is the top-ranked junior middleweight and JMM holds a lightweight belt. Cotto versus Canelos is THE fight at 154.
Agree completely that Cotto-Canelo is the fight at 154 -- and the best possible Cotto fight out there at any weight. I would much rather watch that than a Cotto-Manny repeat or Cotto-Floyd.

But I think more likely, we get Manny-Bradley and Floyd-Canelo. And then I have no idea what happens with Cotto. None of the other potential fights are big money for him. JMM at 147 is probably the biggest and I think could still be good despite the size differential.
I also really like Martinez versus Cotto at 154. That's the current #1 at 54' against the current #1 at 60' and the former #1 at 54. However, I don't believe that Top Rank will let any of their current fighters including Cotto face Martinez.

Cotto's not with Top Rank anymore. But he would get destroyed by Martinez and knows it -- and Martinez does not sell tickets/PPVs. I don't think this one's in the cards at all.

I don't mean to criticise his whole record I mean that since his last fights since Pacquiao haven't been all too impressive.

The same can be said about Pacquiao from Marquez 2nd fight until their recent 3rd fight or about Mayweather since fighting Castillo. I have seen both records being criticised on here, does that mean they shouldn't be the top 2 fighters in the sport? absolutely not, because they are and so is Cotto. Before he beat Margarito alot of people, including me, thought Margarito just has the style to beat Cotto and would win their 2nd fight. Even though I wanted Cotto to win I thought marg would have his number. Now that Cotto got the win he is being criticised for beating a handicapped Margarito. There will always be an excuse. I'm not pointing a finger at you, I'm just saying in general people will always come up with an excuse.

Cotto is nearing the end of his career and he wants to go for the money and you can't blame him, he never avoided anyone. So I think he deserves a big money fight against Mayweather and call it a day.

I understand where your coming from but I just don't think he should fight Pac again. A mayweather fight maybe but what he really needs to do is clean up his division if he goes for Floyd or Pacquiao its just gonna add a loss to his record and jeopardize his career. If he works in his division he can stay in the game for more years.

I agree. I'm not up for a Pac rematch because Cotto was beaten quite convincingly. I wouldn't mind seeing him against Floyd just as a big payday for Cotto, even though it's about 4 years late.

It's not, unfortunately. Just for the record, although Martinez doesn't sell tickets like the most popular guys do, he doesn't sell much less than the average non-American/Mexican champ does e.g. Maidana or Matthysse or Caballero etc.

Cotto was beaten up by Pacquaio, he has done well to recover from that. Cotto is the type of fighter who will get old very quickly, he has battled and won enormous respect for his abilities. I like watching Miguel Cotto, he has only been beaten once legitimately in 11 years of boxing. He should stay well clear of Pacquaio again and go for Floyd or Martinez at the end of the year. He could do us all a favour down here by fighting Mundine and knocking the prick out in the first round! Not much of a warm up for him, but very satisfying!
Cotto has 2012 ahead of him at the elite level, if he gets Floyd or Martinez he should be satisfied with that then give it away in 2013. I see 3 maybe 4 fights left for Miguel Cotto before he becomes like Shane Mosley!

I see no point in this happening again!
