Hagler was a tough nut, he was hurt alright. He was cut too, that cut was serious and if he didn't knock Tommy out in the 3rd it is unlikely Hagler could've continued beyond rounds 4 and 5? It wouldn't have been Hagler's choice, but the cut would've seen a stoppage.
As it happened he took all of Tommy Hearns best shots and survived, he then stepped on the gas after being cut and finished the job. Hagler had a granite like chin and i think Tommy Hearns was genuinely shocked Hagler didn't go down after landing so many big shots. If anything it appeared to have galvanised Hagler and he was relentless for the next two rounds. Would loved to have seen a rematch, but c'est la vie.
As for any others, Monzon would've taken all Hearns shots and probably KO'd him the same way Hagler did.

Wisdom, compassion and courage are the three universally recognised moral qualities of men.
I don't think Light Heavyweights should really come into play here, seeing as this was a middleweight fight.
LaMotta would've taken it.
Robinson, too.
I'm not sure about anybody else. Pryor probably had a pretty decent chance of staying in there.
I don't really think Hagler was hurt, either. The guy's dome was hard like a football helmet. He had a fantastic chin. If he was hurt, he recovered fantastically.
If Arguello could hurt Pryor then a professional "All growed up" Tommy Hearns would have stopped him.
Maybe De la Hoya or Mosely could have taken that power for a bit, but I am thinking that even those guys (who had really solid chins) would wither under those shots
Arguello was a powerful hitter. I wouldn't put that to Pryor's discredit quite too much.
Interesting enough that you referred to a professional Hearns as "all growed up." Jogged my memory I bit. Hearns barely got any knockouts as an Amatuer. He used his boxing skills to beat everybody in the beginning. He didn't develop his punch until he got into the professional game.
Hearns was certainly fantastic. If the guy had an iron chin, he'd have been unstoppable. Imagine how much of a monster he would have been with an iron chin and excellent skills on the inside.
My imagination is running away from me. I apologize.![]()

How could anyone forget Iran Barkley? He beat Hearns twice.
