When my son was 185 as a freshman in high school and 185 as a senior and he was always very fit (played football) but he fought at 178 his first fights and 165 his next year. He didn't lose any strength by cutting the weight.

I have never met anyone that bulked up to fight. It's not like other sports where mass helps you. The kids in our gym that walk around at 165-170 fight 154, 150-155 usually fight 141. I wouldn't go crazy cutting weight the first time, you are tall enough to fight 141 if you are fit. I understand what Grey is saying, it shouldn't be an obsession for younger fighters.
