Default most underrated heavyweights of all time

    could either b

gene tunney--mostly a light heavy-but record is just as good as louis-

joe frazier--lost only 2 ali and foreman--but kicked ali's ass 1st time around--any other heavyweight thoughout time would have lost to those 2.

larry holmes--a legend--however came just after ali--kinda seemed just like a carbon copy of ali
--also does not come into pro boxing until ali, foreman, and frazier or outta the picture--but calims 2 b the greatest

    Gotta love a BK list

Sounds about right to me, at least with the era's what I have any sort of authority of opinion on. Forgive my ignorance though, Ive never heard of Ossie Oscaso (perhaps confirming his underated-ness), care to fill me in BK?

First things first; cheers AC-Cobra [click]

Ossie Ocasio was a Puerto Rican Heavyweight, who beat a near prime Jimmy Young (from the late 70's) twice. He then had first defeat to prime Larry Holmes in 1979.

After a couple of defeats in the early 80's, he cameback as a Cruiserweight, and won the WBA version of the title in 1982 against one Robbie Williams (pre Take That ).

Three defences followed, before a close defeat in South Africa, against South African Piet Crous in 1984.

He cameback with a win against Dwight Muhammad Qawi, before losing to Evander in a 1987 match-up. He then beat the unbeaten future Heavyweight contender Pierre Coetzer.

From then on, he was in tough Journeyman mode...

Lost decisions to Mercer, Seldon and Lennox Lewis, before finally retiring after a eight round TKO defeat to Alex Garcia in 1992.

I always think Ken Norton is really underrated, he beat Ali once and in the other two,the fights were that
close they could have gone either way, then he gave a prime Larry Holmes the fight of his life!!

IMO alot of americans underrate Lennox hardcore... Ike Ibeabuchi is both underrated and overrated depending on who rates him. I think Chris Byrd is underrated considering how well he did against people naturally so much bigger.

The problem with Norton is that Holmes cried a Bicep injury for their fight. And Norton then goes and gets flattened against Shavers , before the scheduled Big Black Cloud rematch...

Ezzard Charles owned Moore in the late 40s... and Charles was given title shots.

More like overrated. Norton is the definition of a paper champion. He never won a title in the ring. It was givin to him. And he lost it in his first defense. His style gave Ali problems. But that Ali was no longer in his prime. Not only that, Norton had more big loses than big wins. Holmes beat him. While Foreman and Cooney destroyed him. Norton has no buisness being in the Hall of Fame.

i definately agree with whoever says liston, and norton to an extent, but iwht liston if it had not been for ali he could have been regarded as bigger then he is.

i dont think ezzard charles is given the credit he deserves. he dominated the division for 2 years after the retirement of louis being a busy champion. although a better light heavy he was a respected heavy
