Frank Bruno was that era's Hasim Rahman....big power, trouble with stamina, trouble when hurt, decent skill, never fully realized his potential, and only had the title for a tiny bit of time...that said, Rahman lit Lennox Lewis the fuck up with that right cross! (granted the favor was returned dramatically), but Bruno just won a decision vs Oliver McCall....hardly a dramatic win. You may be within reason to compare Bruno to Sam Peter even.
Let's be serious, Frank is a favorite because he's English...people like him the way they like all your other flawed sports stars, he's not the greatest, but he's someone you Brits can relate to.

Use to go to camp with Frank, last 2 years. One of the nicest Guys you could meet. Was Great in the Gym Sparring, but lacked confidence in Himself. As I learned from the many talks I had with Him over time. But was great for the Game in England.
Pain lasts a only a minute, but the memory will last forever....

No it isnt really. Forget the England football team, thats done out of obligation and rightly so, everyone knows we're mediocre. Only Naz could be mentioned in the same breath as Bruno in terms of popularity, as talented as people like Graham and Laing were they were Unibond league compared to Naz and Bruno. Mason wasnt even Unibond.
Naz was a global superstar who didnt quite live up to his potential, he still managed to win umpteen world titles and retire with a squillion quid in the bank losing only once to an all time great.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough
