Why is reaching out to other human beings so difficult nowadays?

It seems strange to me that existence for the most part has become short text messages and not real connections. I mean I feel this in the real world as well, simply bits and bytes nothing of substance.

As someone who recently moved to a new and incredibly unfriendly city, I have no idea.

It's amazing to see a group of people all hanging out together, saying nothing with their faces buried into their cells phones.

One thing I observed yesterday whilst being driven home by my coworker was how the road was swarmed with dozens of students who not only failed to notice the car, but were also all intently focusing on their cell phones. You walk down the street and it's the same, people just don't look where they are going, they just have to be online.

I come on here for my daily rant, but I guess I struggle to reach out to other human beings in the real world too. However, I always watch where I am walking. I'm not much of a people person though, not unless I really know you. It's different for me more than others I suppose.
