its amaizing how classist we can all still be. I'd love to know who invented this word 'chav'?

Its been a word (charva) used to describe a certain type of scumbug in newcastle for at least the 25 years I've been alive. Since about 2004 some southern twats in the media bastardised it as 'chav' (charv is short for charva... 'chava' sounds retarded) and it's spread.

I don't think Charva is classist. You can be middle class and behave like a charv... It's an attitude and behaviour which over generations makes these people end up as being sub class, but to pair charv and working class together is an insult to working class. We actually WORK. Working class people are were they are because of situation... Charvs are where they are because they are lazy, self serving, ignorant individuals with a massive sense of entitlement and no work ethic - which is why you will not find a single charva make it to a high level in boxing.

Charvas don't have what it takes to hold a part time job down... How are they gonna box?

The track suit threw me off as I thought it a crucial component of the "chav".

Basically its simple, Chav is what we in America call white trash.
