Haha... not at all. However, you gotta admit he hides it a little better on-camera than Merchant. Larry sometimes has that look on his face like he's just been pulled from the hotel bar to do his TV commentaries. It's almost like Lampley could probably get a whiff of the liquor on Larry's breath.

Well thought out and fair minded Tito. Something positive indeed.

But, I've always thought Lampley a network hack who calls matches more like a detoxing WWE commentator suffering with sever touretts syndrome. Very much a live action comic book. He is a 'good' frontman and a mainstay on HBO but honestly I find the broadcasts without him 'easier' and more fullfilling. Its like having your nagging mother in law call and cancel right before the family sits down for Thanksgiving dinner, all are free to talk amongst themselves with no ring leader

If I could name a smiley I'd name this one 'the Lamps.

Shill or not, the guy is earning his money. If most of had the choice of a free ringside seat and the cash for spouting some biased network plugs on the house fighter vs. sweeping hallways or pumping gas... we'd make the same choice. His personal life just makes me think he should be smarter. I detest domestic violence and i think a guy should know when to pack and leave, but being a public figure only magnifies something like that.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Good points all, Spicoli. (I like your mother-in-law comparison).

Yeah, his calling of the fights themselves leaves a lot to be desired. I guess it's mostly his other roles I would emphasize more. If only he'd limit himself a little in that regard ("...and another hard right hand!!" when the guy probably missed altogether), and concentrate mainly on the stuff he does well. I still think he's pretty well suited to putting the whole package together. The intros... the wrapups... the stuff in between... He just needs to leave more of the fight commentaries to his partners who know more about boxing than he does.
