Good post. Disagree with the thread title. I'm an American with no bias toward either fighter. Yes, it was a premature stoppage, but it wasn't as if the referee had no reason to make the call. Crolla was getting tagged a lot and he had been badly affected by Derry's punches on many occasions. At the time of the stoppage, I didn't see Ricky Hatton complaining much, which may be indicative of something, right? One more thing, 99% of the time, this happens the other way around. For example, the Nicklow-Taylor fight in recent memory etc., where the referee stops the fight early and it provides an advantage to the house fighter. If anyone benefited here, it was the underdog in Matthews. More reason to believe the referee saw something up close that gave him good reason to stop the fight.
