When you got a young fighter like Alvarez about to headline his first PPV you gonna put him in with a fighter that's gonna provide excitement. It's what makes sense. And there's no denying the fact that Kirkland's seek and destroy style and Williams 150 punches a round are more exciting to watch than Molina clinch and hold and Lara's one punch at a time style

What does not get addressed these days is the way that they are being brought up. Coddled by a factor of ten compared to any other era. Soon they will come out in helmets like the pampered kids today in the playgrounds sandbox. Instead of helicopter parents its helicopter promoters. Way too many belts to be had and too many divisions = watered down. An example of this would be to compare Cotto’s upbringing to Alvarez. Cotto faced adversity earlier rather then later which imo prepares fighters for much bigger challenges.

Benitez was 15 when he started fighting and fought close to 25 times in one calendar year before capturing one of two available titles at 140 against Cervantes. You can’t on the one hand claim to be the best fighter in the world at a certain weight class and then claim being only 21 as a reason not to fight anybody that’s a threat.

Also the age. Canelo is 21 and has 40 odd fights under his belt. He has a LOT of time to take those tests and is being brought along just fine..a reminder..He's 21!!! The fighters he's dispatched as a 21 year old is to be respected. The way people talk about him, you'd think he's in the tail end of his career.

You can’t on the one hand claim to be the best fighter in the world at a certain weight class and then claim being only 21 as a reason not to fight anybody that’s a threat.

It still remains that you're trying to compare two totally different fighters. One who had an amateur career vs one who hasn't. Yes, having a belt should mean you're the best in the world but now we have to divide that by 4 - the fact his name is thrown out there amongst the likes of Cotto..well I think he's doing just fine for his age..and of course age has something to do with it, are you nuts?
