8-4 is the closest I could bring myself to making it a more even fight. Whilst I admire the resolve of Cotto, in the close rounds the cleaner, better boxing was clearly done by Floyd. I certainly would not say he was coasting, but Cotto won 3 rounds by out-working Mayweather and only one (8th) by truly out-thinking him. Mayweather's ability and ring IQ shone through in the close rounds where he countered Cotto beautifully and controlled him with his exceptional defence in the manner of a Matador slowly taming a bull. Thus when Floyd wobbled Cotto late on, it showed how great a toll Mayweather's strategy had taken on his opponent; Floyd was not about to rush in for the kill and risk being gored by a wounded beast, but if this fight had been an old-fashioned 15 rounder I have no doubt the final 3 rounds would have seen Cotto fail to beat the 10 count, or else be cut short by his corner.
