Go for it if you want to. Concentrate on the basics, like footwork, how to move on your feet, your balance. Then learn defence. Chin down hands high, elbows inturned slightly side on to reduce the opponents target area. Learn, blocks and parrys and perpetual movement of your upper body as a static target is a target. Once you have a nice tight defence, you will feel alot more comfortable in your initial sparring.

Then you can at least participate in some white collar bouts.

Your doing this for fun I presume, those who are belittling you maybe dont have the bottle to step foot in the ring and try it for real, just for fun.

I'm not being harsh on you but you are to old, simple you may think you are 21 in your mind but you body
is not you can not cheat time. Been around boxing a few years now with my own son, and it's not like
other sport's you can't play at boxing.
And don't think you go into white collar, they are all bum's there are a few old pro's looking to make a quick buck, you could be used as cannon fodder believe me.
There are 1 or 2 would be mangers on the forum saying go for it, my advice think long and hard as for the training carry on lose some weight.
As for the would be mangers, there limit may be a packet of crisps.

    See you mention "son".

You obviously dont have the desire this man has to taste it for yourself. Let him try it.

I know myself from boxing that starting out is hard but if its something you want to do you dont mind it and you enjoy the learning process. Hearing your trainer tell you that you did something well rather than them pointing out your mistakes all the time, getting caught less in sparring, landing more in sparring, not being as knackered on the pads. All these little things are confidence boosters and only those who done boxing will know the pride and confidence they get from improving their fitness and boxing ability through hard graft. Shy should we deny anyone of any age that? He says pro, hes not jumping straight in with Mayweather, we dont need to worry about his health, in fact looking at his profile picture we should all be glad hes taking it up for his health

Enjoy the training until you feel copetant and confident and show real interest and enthusiasm to learn and improve to your trainer and you might get yourself a white collar bout. You are too old to do amateur and without having to make too many sacrifices you can take part in white collar, which is basically amateur for fat older rich people. This will give you a more fair footing than turning pro will. Imagine, all thsi talk in here and you could be getting a call from Kimbos management

So whats wrong with training, sparring or fighting with people your own age?

Dont look for an excuse. Brockton will find like minded souls of his own age at white collar level at least. If his skill level is good enough after a period of training, he will also find some bum journeymen/novices he can compete with at pro level. He also wouldnt get a licence to fight pro unless he is deemed fit to fight anyway.

No but I wont put someone down for having ambition amd trying.

My motto in life is if you dont ask you dont get. Or, if you never try, you never know.

If you start anything with realistic small goals, when you reach them it gives you pride and encouragement to go further. If he doesnt even try because he listened to some poeple whove never even boxed competatively or stepped foot in a ring to spar then dont you think that would be a shame? If he has to learn the hard way then so be it but thats how we all learn, from our mistakes.

By all means, get in the gym and enjoy it... There's nothing out of the ordinary or exceptional in that. Nobody should be put off doing so.

There's a marked difference between dipping your toes in the water and going pro.

Realism, is the word we seem to be looking for here.
