Yeah 1-1 was fair. I was impressed with our performance for the most part. The defence was solid and the 2 centre midfielders looked good.

I was a bit disappointed that we sat back so much in the 2nd half and by the end we seemed to be hanging on a bit. Milner was poor, I'd have liked to see Walcott on earlier to have a go at Evra. Young looked dangerous when he managed to get in between the midfield and defensive lines too.

Overall it was better than I expected. Our customary draw against Sweden and a win against Ukraine should see us though.

I thought England looked shit and in survival mode for most of the match. Is that really the best we have to offer? I am a Liverpool fan, but there shouldn't be so many Liverpool players in the squad. We suck. A total of 4 shots on goal or thereabouts and France with many more.

The England teams get progressively lamer with every tournament. I really hope we can at least get through to the next round, but with all this defensive football you are never going to score goals and some of their shots will get through eventually.

I disagree Miles. We looked organised and created 3-4 really good chances against a side plenty of people rate very highly. Other than the headed chance I cant think of another time when France really had a sniff other than long range efforts?

We're not going to dominate possession against anyone so we might as well forget that but that doesn't mean that we are automatically hanging on. There's nothing wrong with allowing the opposition to play in front of you if they haven't got any real penetration.

I'd like us to be a bit more patient with the ball, we can keep it at times but its as if its a ticking bomb that we have to use within 10 - 15 passes. You can see us visibly get anxious in possession if something hasn't come of it withing a few passes.

Henderson and Carrol I agree on, don't think either should be in the squad. Gerrard and Johnson are nailed on.

Gerrard and Johnson are quality IMO, but the others I just see as filler and you shouldn't have filler in an international squad. English football is so overrun with foreigners that we are scraping the barrel when it comes to more than a handful of good players.

A lot of my students are into football and I agreed with one who described is as 'non-football'. Another described it as 'defense, defense and defense. Another mocked it as '4 chances. Ha, ha, ha'. I was in total agreement with them all.

It is containment football and nothing else and furthermore it is boring to watch. It was like watching Haye against Valuev. Quite tedious.

Miles, lighten up man. This squad is about the development of England for the future and as such is bang on target. The England of old would have blown that lead in the second half. I can't think of any previous managers who would have been any bolder in their selection policy. Roy is clearly a far better manager than Liverpool fans think he is.

In a knockout competition it's surely better to get a result playing ugly than lose being pretty. England were the underdogs after all.

Thought of Cressa when Ibrahinavic scored, you smug git, so glad that they eventually lost. Surprised how well Vorinin played considering he did not do that well at Liverpool.

England did well and I was pleasantly surprised he chose Ox ahead of Downing. I think Ashley and Wellbeck did well considering they had to do a lot of chasing.

I thought England played ok for the first game. Important thing is not to lose
and build from there, Gerrard was superb, plays much better without Lampard.
