It's funny because though DLH may have been at his prime physically, that fight was a lot closer than it should have.
De La Hoya was stubborn on using Mayweather Sr's guard and defense.
He used it wrong and was much too squared and left huge openings for Vargas.
Part of the reason Oscar was so marked up and bloody was just because he was trying new techniques.
He could have won that fight MUCH, easier IMO.

I watched that fight again last week, it's one of my favorites.

Yeah some people are not aware of that. floyd literally dave oscar everything... it was like a transaction... the passing of a torch.... or cash cow or whatever.

Oscar was much bigger than floyd and more powerful. Half a stone makes such a difference.
Floyd is at a big disadvantage fighting at these weights but thats the risk you have to take sometimes.
Fighting martinez at 154 will be a cracking fight and floyd will have to rely on his defence and accuracy to win the decision.

It would be a disservice to Floyd to say Oscar was an old man in that fight. He wasn't old or washes up although I concede that he was not the fresh. He lost because he wailed away too many punches spending his energy too early and he stopped using the one tool that made him win the rounds that he did...his jab.

Most of us are saying that this is not Floyd s best weight so is a complement to his skills that he beat Oscar at a weight he is not natural at.

I think a peak Oscar mashes Floyd. Old man Oscar was jabbing the shot out of Floyd before he crapped out. Peak Oscar keeps the jab goin and goes in for the kill.
