Mine was going to watch rocky 4 at the cinema with my mum and aunt...

But for a real fight then unfortunately Tyson v Douglas. I remember crying after as I was told by my parents before the fight that Tyson was indestructible. I just felt sorry for him.

I do vaguely remember Holmes v Cooney.

I had never followed boxing at all until I was 15 or so. The first fight that really won me over was a replay of Toney vs Vassily Jirov, which happened to be on TV when I had some friends over. The next big fights I remember watching were Pacquiao vs Barrera and the rematch between Jones and Tarver, all three really sparked my interest. It wasn't until I started reading this forum that I really followed the sport to any extent, as there was almost never any boxing on TV where I live.

I got a job as the ice cream boy when boxing was on TV every Monday night here in Melbourne, i went to the stadium and got my white coat and the tray of ice creams, they were in a little tub so you could actually toss them to the punter back in those days.
I was told not to walk directly past the ringside aisle in case one of the fighters got hit and splattered blood on the coat, i did anyway and the boss was right.. i got splattered. Got to keep the customer satisfied i always say. I had to take the coat home and my mother spent all week cleaning the thing. I kept walking down the ringside aisle anyway just so i could get my head on TV and wave to the family. I saw some good fighters though.
What really got me hooked was the Ali persona and the fact that he was the most famous sportsman in the world at the time.

I was cheering for Cooney because Holmes beat Ali and Ali was my hero..

I was disappointed to see Holmes easily handled the "Great white Hope"

I also did not enjoy Larry Holmes perfect right hook that Kayoed Alfredo Evangelista.

Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran. I was so young that when I went to the boxing gym, I would tell everybody i was ROBERTO THE RAM. I thought the older guys were saying Roberto The Ram instead of Roberto Duran. ALI vs Spinx on a little 12 inch black and white TV also. on CBS
