A lot of Fonfara's punches get blocked on Johnson's arms and gloves, whereas Johnson's punches seem to me to be more effective.. Even fight so far, that could go either way in the last 2 rounds.
Two good quality fights tonight on ESPN.
Glen hardly ever wins a close decision, Chicago is Fonfara's adopted U.S. City, Johnson will lose.
Onward to Khan vs Garcia..![]()
Fonara really had him swinging in the wind that last round. Just too strong and layed in the straight punches down the middle. I gave Johnson 4 rounds, tops. Good solid honest scrap!
Couple of old veterans in action tonight. I thought Castillo did well, although Popoca is incredibly easy to hit, and now has two TKO losses in a row. He's tough... but may have a short career. In the other fight, good effort by both men. Although in all honesty, I'm sort of tired of seeing Glen Johnson in the ring. He needs to retire already. He's a classy guy, but was never a ball of fire... and now has become just a plodding old dude. Seventy fights is good enough to call it a career.
I had Johnson/Fonfara a 95-95 draw. The judge who scored it 99-91 is an absolute joke. Plain cheating that. Johnson won a bare fucking minimum of 3.
Fonfara would be a competitive match for Nathan Cleverly. It was supposed to happen before but they brought Tommy Karpency over instead. Maybe now it can happen, if Nathan Cleverly ever fights again, its been a while to have no fight pencilled in.

I had it 6-4 Fonfara. Johnson needed to win that 10th round but he was just totally gassed. He's lost just enough of a step that he can no longer effectively apply his pressure style against top 15 and up competition.
I had hoped that Johnson's poor performances against Froch and Bute were mostly due to cutting down to 168 and fighting such elite guys, but he fought the same way tonight. Clearly Fonfara had a lot to do with that as well as this was his superbowl and he was up for it and took some hard clean shots despite his pencil neck.
It was great to see Castillo get a win against a younger guy with a good record, once I remembered who Apoca was I figured Castillo had a shot as Apoca is tough as hell, but slow and not overly talented. Castillo dominated, showed great defense, didn't quit once the going got tough with his hand and got a nice win.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
It looks like he did retire afte the fight. Says if he cant win a fight like that, why continue. Here is the post fight interview.
Glen Johnson Retires - ESPN Video - ESPN
Thanks for this, I have recorded it and wanted to know if it was worth watching at speed or normal.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Good scrap. Fonfara ain't bad. Johnson has a chin and it looked like Fonfara rocked him a few times.
