I didn't understand the cycling race excuses either. But then I did sort of get the tactics whilst following the womens race.

Basically - once a member of your team is in the breakaway group, you are hindering their chance of winning by working for the chasing pack, so in the British, Dutch and Russian girls case, their team members refused to help the chase. It makes sense. And also shows there's a lot more to peddling than "who does it the fastest." Quite fascinating.

Who thinks the boxing is shitter without the scoring punches on screen?

I've watched about a half-a-dozen boxing matches so far and Richie Woodhall has said "ridiculous" at nearly every verdict.

I thought it was a team event?

All the top nations had four riders, three of those riders job was to get the no.1 man to the sprint finish. So basically the three Brit guys were working for Cavendish.

It's like watching a pacemaker in an athletics/horse race. Sometimes they win because even though they're doing a job they are also running on their own merits.

(that was my take anyway... never watched a cycling race in my life before the weekend )
