    Default RIP Sid Waddell

Sad news for all darts fans, yesterday it was announced Sid past away aged 72 with bowel cancer.

He had to be one of the most colourful commentators on TV

Here are a few of his quotes:
    "[He's] as happy as a hound-dog who's won a year's supply of Boneo."

"If we'd had Phil Taylor at Hastings against the Normans, they'd have gone home."

"When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer … [Eric] Bristow's only 27."

"Look at the man go: it's like trying to stop a water buffalo with a pea-shooter."

"The atmosphere is so tense, if Elvis walked in with a portion of chips, you could hear the vinegar sizzle on them."

"There was less noise when Pompeii was swamped in lava! Absolute pandemonium here! Barmaids are frozen like Greek statues watching! No beer's been served! Everybody's eyes [are] absolutely hooked on that board."

"You could hear a blob of vinegar drop on a chip in this hall."

RIP Sid, you will be missed !

A very sad loss. I was shocked by this as thought he was doing ok in his cancer battle.

Sid has been a major part in Darts amazing rise in popularity in recent years - playing a bigger role than than the majority of the players. Unbelievable that , second only to football, it is now the biggest tv spectator sport in the UK

The general public may not have been able to name many of the main players but everyone knew who Sid Waddell was (maybe not always by name, but 'that crazy Geordie darts commentator" was a legend).

Yet to see a quote from The Power on his passing - Sid was a huge fan of his we all know that.

I hope a tournament is named after him now to make sure his name lives on in the sport - he more than deserves that.

    My favourite :-

"Taylor is running riot in here - its like letting Billy Bunter loose in yer pantry !"

that would be a brilliant honour - makes sense actually as rather naming a tournament you have the trophy , like Jules Rimet etc...

fantastic - hope it happens for real
