Unfortunately, Rigondeaux does have a fight scheduled and it's against another non-top-10 guy. He's really not doing a good job of building up his "Nonito's ducking me" argument. I do think he'd destroy Mares though -- one of the most overrated guys around.
I understand Anselmo Moreno is at 118 right now, but I view Moreno as a legitimate threat to any of the guys mentioned.
I agree completely. I would rank them Donaire - Moreno - Rigondeaux - Mares. I wouldn't view any outcomes among the first three as a huge upset. I think Mares is a clear class below.
Right. There is a reason that Mares didn't mention Moreno as a possible opponent after he won his last fight, even though they share the same promoter, and the fight would be easy to make. However, I actually am a fan of Mares. On that list though, he ranks below the rest.

With regard to the above list, Nishioka is a wild card too and should be somewhere on that list. I haven't seen quite enough of him to predict an upset in this fight, but he looks very good from what I have seen.
Rantcatrat, I don't know how I (and you too, I guess) missed this, but it looks like Moreno is moving up to 122 and making his debut there against Mares on Showtime on the same night as HBO puts on the Donaire-Nishioka fight: Mares-Moreno, Abril-Bogere, Russell, Olympians eyed for Oct. 13-14 | RingTV and HBO, Showtime fall dates to clash | RingTV

Edit: never mind -- just saw your post on this - should be great. I'm wondering what the odds will be -- this could be a good one to put money on Moreno.

In preparation for the Donaire-Nishioka fight this weekend, here is the video (translated) of Nishioka versus R. Marquez:

This weekend we have ourselves a good night of fights. I'm most looking forward to the unification fight between Nonito Donaire and Toshiaki Nishioka.

Nishioka is Donaire's first fight against a southpaw at 122. He's also Donaire's size, maybe even naturally bigger. He's agile and pretty cute defensively. Nishioka might also match Donaire in speed, at the least, he's fast too.

Clearly, Donaire is no louch. Yet, at 122, against Vasquez Jr. and Mathebula, Donaire didn't appear invincible. His record in big fights can't be denied though.

What I like most about this fight is that you get a sense that these two skilled warriors fight on Saturday for legacy. It's not about money or fame for them. They wanted to fight the best to see where they stand. Call it naievete, fine, but that's how I see it. In any event, this fight has all the ingredients for a terrific boxing match that I'm very enthusiastic about.

Agreed. This is one of the best cards of the year, IMO. The co-feature (Alvarado-Rios) will be a great fight to watch too -- less skill, more aggression. Can't wait!
