I saw Smokin' Joe as a guest on Friday Night Fights a few years back, i couldn't understand a word he said and i don't think he knew what he was saying either.
Boxing can be a cruel sport, but people can be cruel to boxers and so many continue on way past their used by date.
As Benny said, he was a nice man, he was a great champion and you can clearly see here that he was humble and acknowledged defeat like a true champion.
