I'm not really a Chavez fan and up until that last round I though he was more quit than guts. To me he had proven his worth as a fighter. I'm really more if a Martinez fan but I was thinking he could catch Martinez, The announcers were taking about it. I was wanting him to step it up and do it, but honestly, I just didn't think he couldn't do it. And all of the sudden I was Jumping out of my chair and I scared heck, out of my wife with that yell.

37 years old, hungry like a wolf and the attitude of a real champion... the guy is not yet appreciated to his just value. Respect, Maravilla.

I almost gave my laptop a heart attack. I just finished watching the fight and when Chavez landed that black horse, shot in the dark right hand, I nearly flipped it over. That was the most agonizing half-a minute of my span as a fan of boxing and I could feel every heavy handed punch from Chavez crushing and dismantling the "laws" of boxing.
I was getting flashbacks from Martinez vs Margarito, but Sergio's heart was much stronger than it was then and showed that he was a different caliber of fighter. Oh my daym, what a final round.

Much respect to both fighters. Another proud day for boxing.

I've been reading that a lot lately from many avid boxing fans but I don't believe that is true. Most avid fans admire Martinez for his accomplishments. The typical people who voted on polls, voted for Martinez overwhelming. So, I just don't get it when some writes that Martinez is not appreciated or respected as a champion.

I get the fact that some don't want to give credit to Chavez for having a heart because they believe his career is mostly fake. Personally, I take his career for exactly what it is. A lot of fights to build him to where he is today. Martinez was obviously a more than he could handle.

I've been rewatching that round and it is just brilliant. Initially I thought Martinez was really hurt, but I wonder if he was wobbly more because his leg was screwed and thus the push as well. He was standing there and taking those shots flush and he was landing his own back in return. Initially I thought he was nuts, but perhaps he just had faith in what he was doing. That man has balls, big balls!

Martinez really reminds me somewhat of Calzaghe. The style is clearly different, but he is unorthodox, southpaw, hands down and always gives you a fight. Also a career end kind of guy.

I disagre a bit there, even among the hardcore boxing fans, there is not "that many" that are giving him prise, not saying that nobody appreciates him enough but there is way too little discussions about him and way too little people giving him his due; Just now, because he's injured (hand and knee) people are talking more about the fact that he might not fight anymore rather than beating JCC or the extra achievement that this victory means for him.

When Martinez went down, it was sensory overload for me. I wanted Martinez to win because he damn well deserves it. I was flippin my sh*t because I told my cousin watching with me 10 rounds in that there is still a distinct possibly that Chavez may pull a Chavez Sr. v Taylor. Though I knew Martinez would win, I wanted Chavez Jr. to win only so he can move on with himself with a good foot forward. Jr has time on his side so I felt he'd do better with boxing as the years pass. I was rooting for both, it was interesting because I've never done that before. Definitely a feeling that I don't think I'll have anytime soon, great last round, for a moment I thought Jr. was really going to put Martinez out.
