Watched Maidana fight and he looked very good against Soto. The fight was excellent too with both fighters standing in the middle of the ring and trying to beat each other into submission.

Good fight with some remarkable technical adjustments by maidana.
Control like that would have seen him level Kahn.
You are right and I didn't mean to be totally flippant and dismissive in my alluding to a pub fight, but it was unusually bitter and full of fouling and genuine contempt for each other. For once Kenny Bayliss exasperated the situation a bit with the random nature of his point taking and threatening to disqualify. We have been unusually spoilt recently as Boxing fans in just about every type of fight happening over the last couple of weeks. Shut outs , near upsets, evenly matched wars , tactical battles the lot.
147 is a deep division. MM will make for a good fight against any top fighter.
He's got a shaky chin and his power doesn't have the same effect at 147, but I love watching him fight. I don't think he'll do much damage at welter though.
He's made some top notch technical adjustments with jab and actual patience under Garcia but may offset it all by going at welterweight. Not sure if hes struggling to make weight..he gassed a bit...or going after $ but he'd be smart to stay at 140 with that new found gear.
Great scrap! Bayliss looked on the fringe of loosing control a bit to me, bad night.
This was a hell of a tear up, I posted a thread about this fight when it was announced but none of you gave a shit...
Maidana did struggle a bit against Soto Karass who is a bigger man and has an iron will.
Like others have said Maidana just does NOT belong at welterweight, he beat Soto Karass because Karass is a fringe contender and Maidana is a former World Title holder.
His class shined through despite it being the wrong weight for him.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
@Hulk - although Robert Garcia is adding wrinkles to Maidana's game that might make it possible to be somewhat effective at welterweight. I agree, however, his ideal weight class is junior welterweight. I hope the rumors are not true that Canelo is considering facing Maidana at 154.
I really liked his jab and his attempt at defense. Although he really got to work on it, he got hit with too many straight punches for my taste. I salute him for not smothering himself like he always used to and if he went back to 140 while keeping this jab I think a fight between him and Rios would be very enjoyable to watch.
Sorry Hulk I was trying to find your thread to post this on as I only watched it the weekend.
It is true Maidana did make a lot of adjustments which show he can learn and adapt. Soto may not be the quickest or slickest which may have made Marcus better than he really was, but his jab was fantastic and whilst he tired in one round, he came back and landed the KO.

Guys like Maidana would fit in nicely in any era.
