Derrick seemed like a hell of a nice guy, and was a good athlete and solid fighter, he just never quite panned out as a top heavyweight.

He went out as fast and as chaotic as he came in. HBO fell in love, it was a great card of hvyweight brutality. His next fight with Izon belongs on that 'great comeback' thread because he absolutely battered and rocked Izon the entire way until Jefferson literally gassed out from trying for the KO and could not stand up late. He gets the iron clad balls award in next fight vs Maskaev fighting on with broken ankle and Jefferson was literally, literally throwing hooks while standing on one foot or falling over in desperation until Oleg couldn't miss and ref waved it off. He knew one way and one way only, he gets you or you get him. Wlad got him afterwords.
