I hope we get a chance to find out, Martinez is starting to get the kind of paydays he should. There are some great fights waiting to happen next year, it's an exciting time in boxing.
Personally, I think the steady but cautious advance is the best way, especially with a gold mine like Canelo, but he could look like a winner against Marteniz even if he loses, by winning a few rounds and looking like he's in the fight. One thing I'm sure of, is that he will do better than Chavez Jr.
Martinez said this on his Twitter " If really Canelo wants the fight, Its easy, his promoter must reach an agreement with my team. I,d fight him tomorrow. "

theres a link to his twitter you might have to scroll down a bit
“Boxing is like jazz. The better it is, the less people appreciate it.”
- George Foreman
*Canelo would wipe the floor with Martinez... Martinez was faster than Chavez and confident... still got knocked down... Canelo is faster, stronger, younger, better... there is no scenario where Martinez wins.
May 4th is a long way off, so I don't take this seriously, although i'd love to see the fight, I believe Martinez schools the kid.
Let’s get real here. Alvarez knows full well that chances are Martinez will not be ready for a May date. In fact the chances are slim to none and slim just left the building. Martinez is talking about getting back into light training by April. I mean if you are going to wait for everyone to age out the least you could do is try one out when they are healthy.
Let’s have a look at Rojo’s last 10 opponents.
Jose Cotto- A career lightweight long past his best.
Luciano Cuello- Average at best.
Baldo- Would have been a decent win about 5 years ago.
Ndou- Ditto
Matt Hatton- Way out of his weight class and don’t be fooled by the ud. Had Hatton been able to crack an egg yolk never mind the shell Alvarez may have been in trouble several times in that fight.
Rhodes- A decent win but nothing to write home about
Gomez- Respect for the guy but by that time already a notch below gate keeper.
Cintron- A name sure but a fighter that has/had the mentality of a Med Fly.
Mosley- Again about 5 years past a time when he would have been able to put up a fight and in a weight class he has trouble with his entire career outside of the second Oscar fight.
Lopez- Ok a decent win over imo a credible guy that again was about two divisions out of his best weight class.
Has Alvarez even seen lateral movement and punch angles/selection close to Martinez at any point in his career? Has he ever fought a credible southpaw let alone one with the natural speed and ability of Sergio?
Besides, the only person Martinez would entertain coming down for in serious negotiations would be Floyd. And why should he consider it for Alvarez? He has more then paid his dues and is the Ring champ and probably world wide perceived champ at 160 which is also a weight Alvarez could make easily I might add. Alvarez on the other hand is another pampered pet and lets be honest paper champion. This is a classic empty call out.
Oscar should make a Chavez fight with his old buddy Bob in Mexico city.
Alvarez may not have fought anybody elite yet, but IMO he is the real thing. At his peak I think he'll be better than Martinez was at his own. But as most posters say this is a little bit early for him to be sure of winning this particular fight.
At this point it would still be a good fight, and while the odds are in Martinez's favour, Alvarez will not be schooled like chavez jr and has more than a big punch going for him.
i would love 2 see this fight
