He seemed like a classy, talented, loyal, generous and enlightening coach. His name is synonymous not only with the legendary Kronk Gym, but also the city of Detroit, and the Motor City Cobra, Thomas Hearns. One can not think of him without also recalling the great impact that all the men he trained continue to have on the boxing world that we all love. The list is awe inspiring, those men who he trained or in some way guided in a long and illustrious career include

    Wilfred Benitez

    Julio Cesar Chavez

    Kermit Cintron

    Miguel Cotto

    Oscar De La Hoya

    Naseem Hamed

    Evander Holyfield

    Wladimir Klitschko

    Lennox Lewis

    Michael Moorer

    Oliver Mcall

    Mile Mcallum

    Gerald McClellan

    Jermaine Taylor

    James Toney

    Yuriorkis Gamboa

His own words pay great tribute to the man who when asked what quality he most admired in other people replied

“ I think people who have values and stand up for what they believe. And loyalty. That's one of the most amazing qualities I love. And that's why I say the people I admire most in my life - loyal people - as opposed to wishy washy, depending on who is the guy that can do the best for me, or get the best favors. And the people who been with you when you weren't on your feet, you should remember to stay loyal to them.”

    R.I.P Emmanuel Steward.

Inspiration and Mentor and a constant reminder of all that is good about boxing.

Don't forget Dennis Andries. Steward took him on - and back to a world title - after being in the opposite corner as Hearns knocked him down ten million times.
