The judges ?
The judges ?
Over the years I've had Oscar winning it by 1 round or it's a draw from multiple viewings of the fight. Oscar gave up the last 3. So basically for the first 9 rounds I usually have it 6-3 in favor of OScar and sometimes 7-2 on different viewings. At worst it should be a draw. But Oscar screwed himself over by giving up the last 3. As someone here said, the judges only has 1 angle of seeing the fight whereas viewers have multiple angles from watching it on tv.
I still have it 117-111 for DLH, i can concede the first round as even only. DLH clearly won rounds 2 through 9 and gave away the final 3. This fight was not close. DLH may have received some close decisions in his career (Whitaker and Quartey) but this remains a travesty of justice as Trinidad was handed a boxing lesson and he knew it!
Huge Tito fan here and no doubt I was swayed at the time because Oscar gassed as usual and ran like a ten year old that just egged your car. After watching it live, I revisited it several times but have not in years. Why don't you guys lobby the powers at be for a replay section and that way we can all go score controversial fights on a monthly basis?
Once we dropped to 12 rounds from 15 in championship fights 10 through 12 became the championship rounds. Whether or not it was the last 5 or compressed to the last 3 over time, Oscar chose flight over fight. Not a good last impression. Not even in the same ball park as Ramirez/SweetPea 1 or Shultz/Foreman in the jobbing department.
I don't get why anyone calls this a robbery, alot of fans often call close decision's robberies. At worst for Felix Trinidad it was 7-5 ODLH, it's a pretty easy fight to score after 9 rounds 6-3 ODLH then Felix Trinidad win's the next 3 making it 114-114.
Now maybe 2 rounds were somewhat debatable you could, have an even round in there somewhere or maybe have Trinidad or ODLH winning a certain round. But apart from 2 of the early rounds pretty easy fight to score IMO no robbery here, although i think it should of been a draw.
I think the best way to describe it is Oscar lost the fight, rather than Tito winning it. It was clear to see how easy it was to box Tito's ears off whenever he wanted. As has been said, he screwed himself by taking silly advice from the corner to take some rounds off. If you make a guy look absolutely silly over 6 rounds and then take 6 of them off, it's going to sound like a robbery to the better boxer because he displayed his clear superiority over half of the fight. Unfortunately for him, boxing is scored quite simply over 12 rounds..
I still had Oscar winning but that's the lifeline Tito fans can fall back on.
