Joe won a version of the 168 title in 1997
So what u r saying is why should roy fight a SMW after he had only recently moved up to 175lbs to fight mike mcallum (Who's prime weight was Light middleweight LOL) and 5'7 inch Montell griffin! 7lbs was nothing considering most of roys opponents were 30lbs over there Prime weights and a JC V Jones fight would have been big! Silly talk....

Jones beat McCallum and Griffin twice in 1997 at 175
Mcallum was a 40 yr old who's prime weight was 154lbs....Midget Griffin was battered by Michalkewski! Why was jones fighting Griffin and not Michalkewski? LOL can ppl on this thread own themselves anymore!

He was not about to shed weight and come back to 168 to fight a newbie that nobody had ever heard of.
U have that on good authority do u? Yeah right......Why fight someone who had just clowned Eubank when he can fight a 168lb vinny pazienza who's prime weight was Lightweight! Quality...

    LOL @ some of u.....

There is no such thing as a false fact. The fact of the matter is that when Joe was just starting to get his feet wet at 168 Jones was beating the body snatcher, Griffin, Hill, Del Valle etc etc and partly unifying 175. So I suppose Joe should/could have went up and challenged him.

And again I was and am a huge Calzaghe fan but the fight was simply not doable. Fact.

But i thought RJ was the great P4P fighter? What's 7lbs? After all Toney shed a shit load to fight Jones! Why couldn't roy? U do know that roy was fighting at 168 a year before he was fighting Griffin don't u! Not really a stretch to fight back @ 168 really was it! Calzaghe may have even gone upto 175.

Convenient to say it wasn't 'do-able'. Please....

This is now a beating a dead horse issue. The statistical facts of the calendar and time line sustains what I have said and explained in the previous essay I posted. Now somebody can claim gravity does not exist either. Makes little difference to reality. So you continue down the road that Jones ducked Calzaghe if you like. No offense but it’s sincerely delusion. The facts are in and speak for themselves. The fight was not possible or even considered at the time and it’s as simple as that. Its not a knock against Joe but the notion that Jones ducked him for lack of a better term is ridiculous.

Jones didn't duck Calzaghe. He was signing the highest paying contract in hbos history coming off of beating Toney. He did what he wanted, when he wanted and with who he wanted. Hbo was approving guys who were known fighters and had shared the airwaves. Some were near terrible at 168 but he was well payed and fawned over. At the time a simple reply of "who the fuck is this guy" concerning Calzaghe would have been heard. Benn had a better case frankly. I won't say he ducked him, but Roy did make a habit of maximizing his earnings with minimal risk.

That doesn't fly Spicoli, we must concede that Calzaghe could have beaten Thor, Ironman, and The Hulk in some kind of handicap match to the death while Calzaghe had a blindfold on, was smoking a cigarette, and juggling chainsaws.....it's only logical

Why did calzaghe stay at 168?
    Why did jones move up?
Different goals. Jones proved more and took the risk and paid for it.
Frank and joe wanted the english marciano, they wanted the 0.
    They got it

From a business perspective frank warren made all the right moves.
If khan was with him he would be undefeated also..chin or no chin.

You didn't say being Welsh was a requirement. Try and be more specific next time..

    I stick by this post:

It's no coincidence that jones avoided every slick southpaw of his generation...Liles, Nunn and JC! Why? Look what happened when he fought southpaw tarver! I also maintain that fighting the likes of Mclellan, Michalkewski and Eubank would have shaved years off of jones prime too! The Johnson fight is evidence of that! Jones would have been beaten sooner had he stepped up more consistantly!
Sorry if it hurts your feelings.

Any time in the 2000's you say?!?!? Well you feel free to be as wrong as you like but when Calzaghe was fighting the likes of Tocker Pudwill and Kabary Salem RJJ was still in his pomp.

But hey, you think how you want to, that's fine.
