Somebody once questioned my view that Ricky wasn't all that great at 147....well there ya go. Also a southpaw took it to him, again. I hate it for Ricky, I do but sometimes you have to know your limits. He could have had a huge payday vs Witter or worked his way up to fight Khan which would have been easier than Malinaggi at this point in his career.

All that said, Ricky was a pressure fighter and he's lucky his career lasted so long, those guys usually burn out quick. I still wish we could have seen Hatton in his pomp vs Gatti, Corales, Morales, Cotto, and JMM...those would have been great fights win or lose granted there were several reasons we didn't see those, but they're fun to think about.

Perhaps...but it would have generated more money right? Khan ain't the sturdiest fighter, now neither is Ricky at this stage but a little pressure on Khan could cause him to crumble. What say you on the other fights had they happened?

Gatti Corales 50/50 fights, at 140 would have had a good row with Morales but probably dropped a decision. Cotto would have wrecked Hatton and Marquez would have dismantled him.

Outcome I expected and there was no way I was paying to see it.

At same time though I can understand why Ricky did it - he needed to know the truth. And he does now, painful as it was.

At least with him out the way it should pave the way for a Khan v Brook showdown. There's a big money British fight out there begging to be made and they should take the opportunity. Khan v Hatton had potential to be a stadium fight, not sure about Brook Khan mind. Still - it will sell in US if they fight at stupid o'clock.

Thankfully this come back, ended with Ricky not getting hurt only his pride,! I wish Enzo Mac, and RJJR,
would walk away from the ring, both have been badly KO, time for these's 2 to go before they get hurt.!

I think hatton was on a slow and steady decline from tszyu onwards...Respect for takin 6 straight fights in the US though.

His style of fighting, balloning up in weight and general lifestyle all contributed to his decline. You can't treat your body like that and fight like that and expect to go on and on...Watch the Urango fight, although he won it convincingly and outboxed him you could see the fire and ferocity had gone! He was a schoolin waiting to happen by the time of the mayweather fight...Lazcano fight he looked dodgy too!

He looks haggard nowadays his skin around his neck his loose, its quite tragic. I thought with the desire and determination he had that we may get some of the old hitman back. I had a feeling deep down it was a long shot though but i probably did'nt want to admit it such is my admiration for him. At least he's got his health & wealth and it's not a sustained 5 yrs or so of fighting non entities and looking bad in doing so! All the best hitman.

virtually everyone was singing on his ring walk, what a massive buzz that must have been

I was there too. I agree with you about the atmosphere and the fact that in a strange way it didn't feel that sad when he was counted out. Obviously I wasn't jumping for joy but it did feel like as a human being he had already won.

For a boxer fighting over the age of 30 in the lower weight classes is a raffle, if you are active and reasonably injury free then you can do it, if you don't blow up in weight between fights and drain yourself whilst training you can can do it. Hatton had some wars in his career, he always had a face that looked like a busted ass even when he won! 2 big KO losses and then a bout of inactivity plus an extended stay at his local chip shop washed down with beers just made it all too difficult by age 34.
I can understand his appeal over the years and i think he gave his all, people should not forget his achievements and i wish him well, he should not be remembered for his unfortunate end in his last fight.

I think he peaked with the Tszyu fight at age 26, his face was a mess after that fight too. He certainly pushed the envelope.
