It's nature's way of trimming the herd.
To change before you get sick or are in failing health is to admit to yourself that you will not live forever. You and everyone you've ever loved and everyone that has ever been alive will die....and that's a hard little pill of reality to swallow for most people.
Also if you are abusing drugs, alcohol, food, whatever you may not be able to see or understand the damage you are doing to yourself therefore you unknowingly hurt yourself until a doctor says "Stop that"
to be honest I would rather live for 60-70 years having enjoyed it than live an extra 10 years being an old dithering cunt depriving myself of stuff I like.... YOLO
maybe that viewpoint will change when I get a little older and my mobility is fucked but at the minute I have no regrets![]()
We do those "harmful" things because life is utterly boring for the most part.
Saddo's post reminded me of this. Jim Fixx? Brilliant.

Adults can be like children, they need to be scared into stopping there bad habits, I was the same
overweight eating to much rubbish, ended up with type two diabetes.!
My own fault no one else's, should have, could have, but did bother no I just carried on, I'm lucky
I got my condition well under control.
I still have the occasional drink, and once a week a pudding normally on Sunday, and do you no
something I haven't felt so good in years.![]()
I do not drink, take drugs, have late nights out in town, but I have abused my knees by playing too much football whilst they were injured. I do not regret it because it was fun at the time and i would do it all again.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
