And he went to the muthafukkin Olympics

Blah, blah, blah...... do we have to go over this once again . We debated this for about 3 hours Saturday night. Just because he might have fought what you consider better opponents, doesn't mean that beating those opponents has earned him the right to a big pay day yet. I mean seriously, who has he really beaten that was a serious threat to him? He still needs to prove himself by fighting & winning against guys like Trout, Angulo, Kirkland or Molina. Being young has nothing to do with it. Golden Boy has just created a hype machine, and expects all of us to bow down & believe it.
The fact that people wanna watch him is why he deserves big pay. It's that simple. Money is what dictates everything in boxing. And why does the name Kirkland keep coming up as someone he should be fighting? Kirkland had his chance. And he backed out. He doesn't wanna fight Alverez. Yet his names is always brought up.

It's not cool for a so called champ to pick a fight with a man who has just put in one of his career worst performances. Alvarez habitually does this and thus I have no interest in the chap.

He's coming off of two losses and is damaged goods at this point. His last fight was so bad that people are talking about whether or not he should retire.

It's a fight that will make a lot of money so it's going to get made, or at least it looks like it. I don't see what the problem is. Alvarez is only young and he's fighting the best pound for pound guy in the world in September so the more seasoning he can get along with the biggest paydays before then is all good for him.

Trout he could easily lose to and then the boxing industry doesn't get a massive event in September.

Brother, it's a set up and that's all it is. I as a fan want to see him fight the best available opponent, earn a way to a mega fight instead of tip toe through with paid infomercials. When did we start settling for this? Really? If he is letting a thought of losing to Trout, forget the money, enter his mind with a possible go with Mayweather on deck...he doesn't need to be fighting Mayweather. Boxing IS a business but what fighter thinks like that in the first place? I don't care about his check book and care less about paying to see guys who do not fight reasonable opposition when it is due and earned. He will get no seasoning from Cotto at this point and face nothing like a shifty and cutey style he would gain from Trout going into a more similiar Mayweather fight. He'll only gain a paycheck and comfort that well rested 0 on his record.

Not railing on you bro, just sick and tired of guys being treated like they get to wear a Championship into the ring drinking out of a juice box. He's not a child, he's a man in a mans sport. Save that non ama stuff too. You know what guys with ama fights had also? Losses! Lots of them. It's on him if he didn't have ama fights. So what. You wanna learn as you go and face guys two or three times early who park cars part time, fine but it's fair game.

The big problem is promoters sell these fighters as the next big thing and mention their names with the elite and then spoon feed their fighter easy opposition. I think Alvarez is a superb fighter, but GBP were treating him like he was about to become a mega star before the Matthew Hatton fight. Of course, they had to create a star to counter-act Arum and the kid is a talented ticket seller. I think Chavez & Alvarez get a little more heat because their are so many Mexican legends that have been warriors and fought quality opposition so the world expects a bit more.

I agree he's been a manufactured champion (Matthew Hatton moving up in weight in a world title fight ) and he hasn't been tested yet. But he's a massive star with boxing's biggest demographic and potentially a goldmine if he's handled right. And part of handling him right is not letting him take a loss against a tricky southpaw like Trout. His first loss is going to be in a Mayweather fight and then he's going to be carefully rebuilt into another massive fight. It's not going to make everybody happy that he doesn't beat some credible competition on the way to a Mayweather fight but at least he's going to get tested at some point.
