    Deontay Wilder challenges Bryant Jennings:

Deontay Wilder targeting Bryant Jennings for next fight

By Jeff Sorby: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KO’s) wants to fight undefeated heavyweight prospect Bryant Jennings (16-0, 8 KO’s) next after Wilder defeated previously unbeaten Kevlin Price (13-1, 6 KO’s) by a 3rd round knockout on Saturday night at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California. Wilder knocked Price out with a monster right hand in the 3rd round to get the knockout win.

After the fight Wilder said this as quoted by RingTV “I want to be back in the ring as soon as possible, and I definitely want Bryant Jennings. I want him…the fans want it. There can only be one of us.”

That would be a good fight but also a potentially difficult one for Wilder right now because he would absolutely have to knock Jennings out in order to win the fight because Jennings’ style is more suited to winning a decision Wilder’s fight style. Jennings throws a lot of punches, has a great jab, and has decent but not great power.

Jennings may not hit as hard as Wilder, but he lands so many punches that he makes up for it by the sheer numbers of shots he throws. Right now I’d say that Jennings is the much better skilled fighter than Wilder, although that doesn’t mean he would win. Wilder hits incredibly hard with Lennox Lewis type power with his right hand, and if he can land that shot often enough, he’ll have a good chance of knocking Jennings out or anyone he faces.

I’d be surprised if Golden Promotions, the promoters for Wilder, allowed him to take a fight with a fighter as advanced as Jennings. Wilder looked pretty raw last night in beating Price, and it would sad to see Wilder in a fight where he’d pretty much absolutely need a knockout in order to win.

Wilder needs more work on using his jab because he wasn’t throwing it nearly enough last night, and he rarely threw any left hooks. It was either a pawing jab or a right hand, and not much else. To beat a fighter like Jennings, Wilder needs more tools.

And Bryant Jennings says he's willing to fight Deontay Wilder:

Unbeaten Glazkov test awaits Prizefighter champ Hamer on Saturday

World Boxing News: Unbeaten Glazkov test awaits Prizefighter champ Hamer on Saturday

Ukrainian heavyweight puncher Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov, 13-0, 9 KOs, intends to school the already well-educated Tor Hamer, 19-1, 12 KOs, when they meet in the ring at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, in PA, Saturday, December 22nd. The 8-round heavyweight contest is part of a big nationally televised double-header that will be broadcast on NBC, beginning at 4PM ET. The headline bout is a 12-round rematch between Tomasz "Goral" Adamek and Steve "USS" Cunningham for the IBF North American Heavyweight Title.

Lately New York-born Hamer has been making waves and getting ink as a promising prospect in the heavyweight division. He's won eight in a row including a unanimous nod over title-challenger Kevin Johnson, and has been singled out as a future American hopeful for world championship honors.

Much of the hoopla surrounding Hamer is the fact that he carries educational credentials far superior than those of most boxers. The son of a Harvard-educated father and Villanova-graduate mother, Hamer grew up attending private schools, and holds a B.A. Degree from Penn State University. Truly a rarity in the boxing world.

A veteran of 13 professional fights, mostly in Russia, Czar has faced a number of Eastern European standouts. But it is his vast amateur pedigree that gives him the edge in ring experience that he will use to become the professor against Hamer. In his pre-pro tenure, Glazkov faced a "who's who" of international boxing at the World Amateur Boxing Championships, World University Championships, the Strandya Cup, and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he won the Bronze Medal.

Czar's goal is to capitalize on this opportunity by beating Hamer impressively on national television and making a name for himself in this, just his second appearance in the United States. If he can score a knockout against Hamer, Czar Glazkov will certainly go to the head of the class.

Charr: I'll stop Airich 'The Grinch' from stealing my presents

World Boxing News: Charr: I'll stop Airich 'The Grinch' from stealing my presents

On September 8th, "Diamond Boy" Manuel Charr challenged Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight crown in Moscow. Barely known to the boxing world before his title fight, Charr wanted to use his chance to enter the big stage with a bang, shock the world and become the first German (based) world heavyweight champion since the legendary Max Schmeling. Instead the "Diamond Boy" was stopped by a cut (and referee Guido Cavalleri) in round four.

"I know that I am a slow starter but my game plan was to come up stronger and stronger in the second half of the fight", says Charr. "It’s too bad I didn’t get the chance to show the world what I got. I have to live with the decision but it was without a doubt a very unsatisfactory ending. A lot of questions still remain and I keep on asking myself: What if...

But I want to look ahead instead of looking back. I still have my dream to become heavyweight champion of the world and I hope that I get another shot at Vitali before he retires. "

Charr starts his campaign for a possible second title fight this Friday (December 21st) in Cologne when he takes on hard-hitting Konstantin Airich in a WBC Baltic and WBC Mediterranean heavyweight championship bout. The show is labeled as "X-MAS FIGHT NIGHT" and with only one week to go until Christmas Eve, Charr posed as "Santa Clause" at today’s press conference and gave his foe a green hat calling him "The Grinch".

"Airich is "The Grinch" who wants to steal Christmas and all my presents", said Charr. "But I won’t let him get away with that. I have to stop him in order to get another shot at the world title. This is what I live and fight for."

"I have been waiting for a chance to fight Manuel Charr for a long time", said "Grinch" Airich. "I like and respect Manuel as a fighter and as a person but he chose the wrong guy for this fight. I came to Cologne to ruin his Christmas and that’s what I will do Friday night."

The "X-MAS FIGHT NIGHT" with Airich vs. Charr will be streamed live online on Wbcboxing TV and Suljos TV.

Kalle Sauerland says the fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin is in the works.

Klitschko-Povetkin at long last? - Dan Rafael Blog - ESPN

After ducking heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko since 2008, Alexander Povetkin is now apparently ready to face him. It took him long enough.

Sauerland Event, which promotes second-tier titlist Povetkin, said on Wednesday that it hopes to make the fight, claiming that the WBA, which recognizes Klitschko as its “super champion” and Povetkin as the “regular” titlist, has ordered negotiations to begin between the two camps.

According to Sauerland Event, the WBA wrote the various camps before Klitschko spanked David Haye in July 2011 to make it clear that the Klitschko-Haye winner would have to face the Povetkin-Ruslan Chagaev winner within 18 months of that Aug. 27, 2011 bout.

Sauerland Event claims that Klitschko-Povetkin is due by Feb. 26, 2013 -- 18 months after Povetkin beat Chagaev.

“We are very excited that Povetkin will be Wladimir Klitschko’s next opponent,” promoter Kalle Sauerland said. “We consider Wladimir Klitschko to be a great champion but we also consider Alexander Povetkin to be a very serious challenger. A fight between two Olympic heavyweight champions is always something special and one that will turn out to be a real treat for boxing fans all over the world.”

Chris Meyer, the managing director of Sauerland Event said, “We have a four-week period to negotiate terms on the fight and will be in contact with the Klitschko management. We worked together for many fights as co-promoters of the Klitschkos. Therefore, I am convinced that we will have a professional dialogue. However, if we should not be able to reach a voluntary agreement we are prepared to enter a purse bid.”

The Klitschko camp does not agree with Sauerland’s assessment of the situation.

Bernd Boente, Klitschko’s manager, told ESPN.com that the WBA told them that they had 24 months from the Klitschko-Haye fight to make the mandatory defense, which would mean a Klitschko-Povetkin bout wouldn’t be due until early July.

“The WBA has told (K2 Promotions managing director) Tom (Loeffler), (adviser) Shelly (Finkel) and myself that we have 24 months from the Wladimir-Haye fight, so we will ask them,” Boente said.

Boente said Klitschko (59-3, 51 KOs) plans to fight in early April in what would be his 14th title defense, but did not commit him to facing Povetkin (25-0, 17 KOs), although he didn’t seem particularly concerned about the fight possibly being mandated next.

“We will ask the WBA about this issue and then see,” Boente said.

Klitschko ought to be licking his chops to finally get Povetkin into the ring, because he probably would hammer him.

Since Povetkin, the 2004 Russian Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist (Klitschko won gold for Ukraine in 1996), beat Eddie Chambers in a January 2008 title eliminator to become Klitschko’s mandatory for the first time, he’s gotten worse, not better.

Povetkin had a huge struggle with Chagaev to win the vacant “regular” belt and also got a gift decision against cruiserweight titlist Marco Huck, who moved up in weight, in a horrible performance in February.

But you have to love the tough talk from Sauerland Event, considering that Povetkin has run from Klitschko since 2008. Klitschko’s camp has already won two purse bids for the fight, but Povetkin failed to show for the bout either time.

They were supposed to fight in December 2008, but Povetkin injured his foot when he tripped over a tree root while doing a run in preparation for the bout. However, when Povetkin came back, he went in another direction.

In 2010, there was another purse bid for the fight and K2 won it again. Povetkin would have made a career-high payday of more than $2 million, but Teddy Atlas, then his trainer, convinced him not to take the September fight, and Povetkin failed to show up at a news conference announcing the bout. Klitschko fought Samuel Peter in a rematch and knocked him out instead.

I do not agree with that article on povetkin... In my opinino povetkin won the fight v huck by 1 round... very close fight but going by normal boxing scoring povetkin won(in my opinion) even if he did take more punishment.. I also thought he beat chagaev fairly easily too...

but in the end it doesnt matter much he has some good wins and an olympic medal but he is just tailor made to be eaten alive by wladimir even as cautious as wlad is I cant see povetkin lasting the distance against him.. povetkin made the right choice( for himself) in avoiding wlad... this is going to be a very very one sided (slow) beat down

The WBA should join the circus. Part of me would like Wlad to tell them to fuck off and the other part of me would like to see Wlad kick Povetkins head in. The fruit cake had two shots at Wlads IBF tin and bailed and then got to fight for Wlads old belt by not fighting Wlad. They strip the guy and make him super champ and now they are going to order him to fight a guy that has his old belt. The WBC though allowed Wlads brother to retire for two years and then come back and get an immediate shot at the regular title but then force Martinez to chase Jr down after they stripped him of his regular title.

    Seriously whata cluster fuck.
